How much should one tip a hairstylist? Percentage?

I am always very satisfied with my hairstylist's work, so I want to be sure that I am tipping appropriately. Is there a certain percentage that is customary? Should tipping differ depending on whether the appointment is for a trim or for color service?

    I tip 20%. I don't change the percentage when I get a trim or color service, but the tip will just be more or less depending on the price of the service.

    for trimming or layering i normally give about 10- 15% but if its a colouring then slightly more.

    I give 15% because it's so expensive anyways I can't do 20% I think it's too much!
