The tv is made by Samsung and has known issues with convergence amp ICs. Part number stk392-040 qty 2 qualified tech would repair for $250-$400. The smell was yoke return resistors overheating---it will occur full time eventually.

Is it possible your bulb life is expiring or the cooling system of the TV is failing?
