When in the annals of history and archaeology do we find the first man made lake? (Not a pond, not puddle...but a LAKE!).

I recall that a small artificial lake was made for priests to purify themselves in ancient Egypt.

Also a reservoir at Girnar in 3000 BCE. Artificial lakes dating to the 5th century BCE have been found in ancient Greece.
They very nearly succeeded in damming the Nile, but the partially constructed dam got swept away in a massive flash flood near the end of its construction.
