  • Laserpecker.?

Not willing to risk several thousands on a 60W laser engraver but I've seen Laserpecker advertised of late.  But it seems that it will only use some sort of apple iPhones.  I have an Apple iPad Air 2 with Wi-Fi.  So my question: Will my iPad work with Laserpecker or not?

  • Abandoned Railways.?

Does anyone in the Dallas-Fort Worth area know of any abandoned rail lines within 50 to 60 Miles that still have their rails and cross-ties still in place?

I've seen several videos of "rail-bikes" and it has piqued my interests in trying it, if there is such a rail bed within the above mentioned distance.

  • What's with all the different production company names in the opening credits?

I've noticed this for some time now: In the opening credits (even for major studios) a lot of different names for film productions, names like...oh, say "Busted Shoelace Films", "Clean Sock Productions", "In Cooperation With Nosepick Films". But I never see the same name twice.

So, what's the deal? Is it the same group of people? I'm beginning to think this is some sort of tax-dodge. Any ideas?

  • Two questions (USB and using USB on a hard drive)?

    Two questions here.

    1. I have a couple of 'dead' computers with IDE drives and the like. If I pull the hard drives (lots of pictures and other files I would like to copy to my current computer) and use a adapter cable that goes from the hard drive to a USB port will it work? I've since found out that the voltage on the USB port may not be enough to run a hard drive from a computer. Any input on this?

    2. Is USB 2.0 upwardly compatible with USB 3.0?

  • Software for Advanced Home Weather Stations.?

I've been researching advanced home weather stations (ok...ok...so I'm a gadget nerd!) such as Accurite, Davis and others. I'm primarily interested in the units that have a USB for connection to a desktop computer.

However, after looking at the specs for the accompanying software, it calls out Windows 7, Windows XP, Windows Vista. Only one of these stations even mentions Windows 8 (not 8.1).

Do any of you readers think that the software would be upwardly compatible with Windows 8.1? Or would the software be as useless as the steam off of a free lunch?

  • How long should a novel be?

I'm working on a novel and I already have about 75,000 words committed to the work. I suspect the entire thing will be about 100,000 words.

Should I go back and pare it down into something more compact?

  • Absolute zero...is there an absolute maximum temperature?

Most of us here know that absolute zero is −459.67°. But is there and absolute maximum temperature.

My line of thought: At a given extreme temperature that the level of energy would be so high that it would reduce the atom to its fundamental particles. (Muons, gluons, gamma, beta, etc.)

So.....is there an absolute maximum temperature?

  • Audo on YouTube?

I recently downloaded Windows 8.1. Now, when I go to YouTube there's no audio. There's not even the little speaker icon on the pop up tool bar at the bottom of the YouTube screen.

Any ideas as to what is wrong? Any idea how to cure it?

  • I've a question about connection speed & the IE7 security patch.?

I downloaded the latest IE 7 security patch and all went well. However, in the three days since I've noticed that my connection speed has dropped significantly (dial up....ok! ok! so I'm a cheap skinflint!). The day after my speed dropped from 52.0 kbps to 31.2 kbps. The second day my speed was back up to normal (52.0 kbps). Then today I've logged off and back on several times and have connection speeds from 32.0 down to 24.1 kbps. Did that download from Microsoft do something to my settings or is there some other cause?

  • PPS addition to XP Home edition.?

I have Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition on my computer. While it did include Word and Excel it did NOT include Powerpoint.

Now, a couple of years down the road, I find a need for Powerpoint. I looked at Best Buy but all they had was bundled software packages of XP Student, Home, Home Office, etc.

Does anyone know if any of the electroinc stores sell just the Powerpoint package? I hate to shell out bucks for stuff I've already got on my machine.

Any worthy advise will be greatly appreciated.
