Good way to clean inside an exhaust pipe?

I'm tired of throwing away old scooter mufflers because they are clogged. I have my own method of cleaning the inside but it only works so well. I usually spray brake cleaner into the inlet and outlet of the pipe and let it sit for a little while. Then I take a blow torch and heat the hell out of it until flames start comming out the ends. Don't worry, I do it in a controlled area. Like I said, it works great but I was wondering if there is another way to clean those real dirty ones. Any suggestions?

Update:

It is a sealed exhaust system

caustic soda is good Ive used it a number of times...just let it soak overnight and then again a good ole fashioned hot bonfire always works a treat......

does it have a removable baffle? On two cycle engines I have seen the baffle is removable and you can actually scrape the carbon out. How easily is the muffler removed? Maybe try an oven cleaner? It works on circular saw blades in removing burned on resin. Never tried it on exhaust but I'd imagine it may work?

i spray starting fluid inside both ports, but i light it right away it works well, the pipe only gets to operating temp and burns all that carbon.
