Should we get our Jack Russell a friend?

We have a Jack Russell Terrier who just turned three. We have one son who just turned two and a 2nd who is 7 months. We think he is jealous of our sons. Our jack seems lonely and although we still pay attention to him, he seems to feel rejected. This leads to an occasional accident in the house (once a month or so), which makes me CRAZY. We have tried re-training (positive only... Jack's don't do well with negative) We have tried being nicer, paying more attention, teaching our oldest to throw the ball for him etc. Being a Jack Russell, they are known not to like other animals; however our dog is VERY well socialized. He doesn't like cats, but does do very well with other dogs. So does anyone have any experience with this? Would getting another dog possibly help his jealously issues? We are not willing to give up on him, but we do want him to be happy... and not potty in the house!! Any advice is welcome. Thank you!

Update:

Hmmm... I've heard that Jack's CAN be breed specific, however... our dog plays with my mothers golden retriever all the time. They are friends. They don't live together, but... The do love eachother! :) This is so hard, I just don't know what to do!

I would strongly recommend it. I own two amstaff's. We just recently bought a puppy for our seven year old dog. The two dogs constantly play with each other and it seemed so much easier to train the new puppy. She follows her older sister's lead and they take care of each other.

As for the accidents, I have experienced the same thing with the older dog in the past. The dog is acting out and I understand your frustration.

Providing your dog with the play friend is the right move in my opinion. Realize there may be a small transition period, but your two dogs will become fast friends.

We had a female jack that was sort of lonely when we were gone so we adopted a male jack. It was the best thing we ever did. It took a little while for them to like each other but now they are best friends. If I were you I'd get another jack.

As far as accidents in the house. If you have pets your going to have accidents it's a way of life.

Only get another Jack. They are breed specific. They only get along with other Jacks. My Jack and Australian Shepherd are mortal enemies. We've had to keep them seperated for 6 years.

I have a pal who had a breeding puppy too, and it used to be plenty like yours sound, it could most effective keep beneath this desk, and used to be tremendously scared while any one it did not realize got here close it, all I can let you know to do is be very style to her, she used to be probelly abused, and do not attempt to drag her out of the room she thinks of it as her dependable position, due to the fact that you have not had the puppy for extraordinarily lengthy but she probelly hasn't gotten used to you and continues to be afraid you could abuse her, possibly attempt to positioned her meals simply external the room, she probelly will pop out to devour it, and simply maintain doing that, possibly relocating it farther away, optimistically I helped
