It depends on your pain tolerance. I have six tattoos (one of which is on the back of my neck) and none of them "hurt." The only tattoo that I have where I flinched a couple of times was the one that is in the middle of my back. When the tattooist was going over my spine...

But, in answer to your question, with my experience, a tattoo on the back of the neck does not hurt.

And yes...they are permanent...so only get it if you really want it, take all things into consideration - how people will perceive you, i.e. employers.

I have a small star done on my neck, and obviously it did hurt but it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I do have a high tolerance for pain, but also I am 16.

tattoos are going to hurt no matter where you put them.

i imagine the neck would be painful. thin skin, little fat, near bone, and VERY sensitive. i have to agree with the first answerer, as much as i LOVE tattoos, depending on your life situation, a neck tattoo may not be the best spot.

it's just like anything else, the pain is going to vary person to person!

i'm the biggest pain wimp ever, i have 8 tatts and the neck was one of the one that absolutely hurt the very least! it's always going to sting a bit but it's nothing you won't be able to handle!
