Ask if you really need it.
Put aside first an amount (in an investment account) and stick to whats left.

Pay yourself first , even if its small (25 bucks) by setting up an emergency fund, Not a put and take account. Do it by automatic draft into a money market. Remember use it only for emergencies! ( roken car, etc)
Pay all your bills by automatic draft
Pay off the high interest debt first, then the next highest, etc.
Don't use credit cards ,stay out of shopping stores or go with specific item and cash in mind.
Write down everything you spend for at least a month, then cut back nonessentials by 5-10% or more. Put that money towards one of the above.
I did this with the help of a financial rep and am now near debt free and saving money everyday!

Simple.. give yourself 100 dollars or so, every sunday, and thats the only amount you are allowed to spend for food clothes and entertainment. And every Sunday keep giving yourself that amount. But it doesnt mean you have to spend the full 100 or so. You can save it and add it on to the next weeks 100.

Take your debit and credit cards and put them in a glass of water and in the freezer. Freeze them, then if you want to make a purchase you have to think about it for a long time while it thaws out. Thats enough time to convince yourself that you dont really need it!

stop and think every time you find something you want to buy. think "Should I wait to get this since it's too much to fit my allowance?" you could also write a log that keeps track of every item that buy and the price of the item so that you can make sure your money doesn't go overboard.
