How many Christians who say they study the Bible actually look into the original translations?

I do not know Hebrew or Greek but do look into the meaning of many words and have a good pastor who can explain what I have trouble with.

I also have a study bible and several translations to hopefully get the best incite to the meaning.

I do! but I am studying Theology so it is an expection. Often if you get a good few translations of the Bible then it can have a similar effect. For example the New Revised Standard Version has footnotes with other possible word that could have been translated for example the 'Spirit' in John is Parakletos in Greek with does not directly translate but the NRSV has it a both Counsellor and Advocate.

very good question, im atheist, but know many christians who dont understand the origins of the bible, like the fact that the gospels were written after jesus death, and that the names of the gospels are not the ppl that wrote thm, many dont even realise that there are many other gospels that never got into the modern bible. or that the gospels were picked for some very odd reasons. and yes. i think its important to look back. the bible has changed alot, mainly due to translation after translation. and even different versions today vary hugely. many religions suffer due to ignorance, ppl should respect there own religions more and actually research what it is that they follow. to many chistian sects are just invented by ppl who just wanted a bit of extra power, and are detatched from what christianity actually was.

Sweetheart, either they are originals, or they are translations. They can't be both at the same time. I read my NT in the original Greek - that's a privilege of my culture. My OT is in the Septuagint translation; as it's just an auxiliary, I won't bother to learn Hebrew for that only.

Why just stop at learning the language? How about learning and studying the culture in which it applies. I was a Christian and I learned Hebrew and studied the Hebrew culture. I am now an Atheist because of it.

Not sure, but I know Theravada Buddhists studying ancient Buddhist texts are encouraged to learn Pali (the language of the Theravadin Tipitaka)
