I thought our intelligence reports said that Iran was not developing nuclear weapons?
Did I miss something that reversed this conclusion?
Why are we saber rattling? "The November 2007 United States National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) judged that Iran halted an active nuclear weapons program in fall 2003 and that it remained halted as of mid-2007. The estimate further judged that US intelligence did not know whether Iran intended "to develop nuclear weapons," but that "Iran probably would be technically capable of producing enough HEU [highly enriched uranium] for a weapon sometime during the 2010-2015 time frame" if it chose to do so.[4] Iran states its nuclear program is peaceful.[5] The head of the IAEA, Mohamed ElBaradei, has stated that he has seen "maybe some studies about possible weaponization", but "no evidence" of "nuclear material that can readily be used into a weapon" or "an active weaponization program" as of October 2007.[6]"

Iran's Nuclear Program actually began back in the 1950's when US backed Shah ran the country. During Ford's term in the 1970's he signed a deal that would give Iran a plant that would help extract plutonium for nuclear fuel. Dick Cheney was the Chief of Staff, and Donald Rumsfeld was the Secretary of Defense back then. Many people worried that Iran's program wasn't just for peaceful purposes, but for developing weapons. Even though the Shah was obviously a great ally of the West and the United States, a big concern was not knowing who would be in control of that country in 20 years. The Revolution came and the Shah was booted from the country, and now 30 years later here we are.
Saudi Arabia is also trying to develop, with our help, a nuclear program for an alternative source of fuel. Pretty suspicious if you ask me. I'm sure they would like some nukes of their own as deterrents to protect their oil from foreign aggressors, or Iran or Israel. Shouldn't the Saudis invest in solar technologies since they live in a desert and have very little rain or cloud cover? Also, who knows who will be in control of Arabia in 20 years.

Report or no report ---- Israel is bent on attacking Iran, so US involvement is inevitable.
Israel was furious when that report came out.
