Why does my kitten hate my roommate?
I got a kitten about a week and half ago. She loves me and constantly wants my attention but she runs and hides when i stand up or walk around or make sudden movements. Why? And why does she hate my roommate? She's cool with everyone except one of my roommates who is never home. She acts terrified of him. He says he's only gotten close enough to pet her once and sometimes she hisses at him. He also says that cats and dogs usually like him. Any thoughts on what might be causing her behaviour?

Hi hun,
To act like this is normal behavior. He is never home so why should she consider him as part of the family. The hissing just means back off. She is just protecting herself and her space from him. If that so much worries you and him, he could give her treats. When she does get close to him tell him to pet her and talk to her very softly and nicely while giving her food. You may be working on this for some time. Cats are not very trusting and she already thinks he is a stranger and he is not welcome in her world.
When you see that she is running and hiding that's just your cat inviting you to play with her. Kittens/cats play this way. My cat does that too. I just chase him around the house. It's fun. Sometimes he'll stay where he is when I actually want him to run away but that's also normal instead of sign of fear.
In case she is actually scared of the sudden movements just give her some time. She'll get it. She is still young. Kittens are crazy and silly. They do funny things and it sounds to me like you have a funny one. Just relax and enjoy the show while you can. They grow up very fast.

Okay, your cat is still does not really trust you. Pet your cat play with your cat. Try not to make sudden movements or loud noises. Your kitten is still trying to get used to its new soroundings. Have your roommate bend down and give your kitten a treat. As the kitten eats the treats your roommate should pet the kitten gently in the head. Also have your roommate feed your kitten sometimes. It is good for your kitten to know that you are not the only loving and affectionate person. Well, hope I helped!

When there is two cats in the household one has to be dominate, and its rather… Dumb to try and prevent it from happening. If he dominates your cat, then he does. It is in their nature, and some cats are slower at litter-training. Try helping litter training it, by placing it in the litter box every few hours or whenever you can. It will help with the pooping everywhere and takes very little out of your time. Just keep the bowl filled for both cats all the time so they can share a bowl without one eating more. If its all filled, and since a kitten cannot possibly eat a whole entire bowl of food, then your cat can still eat. I don't think the kitten is 'tormenting' your cat. Its being a kitten, and playing and annoying other cats is what they do.

I got a siamese kitten about 9 months ago, and she still gets freaked out whenever someone walks in the room or tries to touch her. There's only one room in the house where she doesn't act like that, it's the weirdest thing. We all thought she would just grow out of it once she got used to us, but she hasn't. I think it might just be a personality thing.

well cats are very complicated creatures. some are just shy and are flaky about sudden movements. as far as your roomate goes, i think the kitten just isnt used to him yet. im sure things will be great in the long run :)

i guess it's the smell. Y'knw my sis have this cat who is all over her and love her very much, but once she patted a stray cat, then try to pat her own cat back, her cat flipped and hissed and ran away. The smell of stray cat was too much! (even though we can't smell it)

she has been abused. maybe before you got her. but, your room mate might be tormenting her.
hissing is reserved for extreme fear. not normal fear. fear of sudden movements means someone beat her, threw things at her.
it might be your roommate reminds her of her abuser, or because he is never there, she does not accept him as part of the family.
only time will tell. she will calm down, unless someone is still hurting her.

She is tiny, sounds like some one has scared the crap out of her. One roommate in particular?
