I totally believe what you say happened to your friend is true. Why? I'll link to some examples of other peoples experience's shopping at Best Buy.

Either your friend really did shoplift the computer because he was mad, or he mistakenly received the computer off the shelf from the salesman, then thinking that he was just doing a swap, left the store without doing an exchange. He would not have been arrested if he explained the situation, got the salesman and manager involved and resolved everything.

This is not a true story, your friend stole the computer from the store and got arrested for shoplifting on the way out.

Best buy has the worst customer service ever. i bought a computer that was supposes to have a video card & video hook up to it. They sold me a usless computer that i could not use. On top of that the so called Return poliy WAS NOT on the back of my reciept even though they LIED & said it was. They even PAID OFF A JUDGE to rule in there favor when I tried to sue them in Small claims court. I even still have the reciept & the lie printed on a letter they sent to a credit card compamy when I tried to refuse to pay for it & get them to take it back. No one should ever trust BEST BUY!

it doesn't sound like the whole story b/c the geek squad just fixes computers...i don't believe they are authorized to just give computers off the shelf. Regardless, he would still get a receipt for the exchange....your friend should have taken more precautions.

It sound like your friend stole it if he got stop by the door. I know if he went to Best Buy and told best buy that he didn't had a card they would give it him. So I believe he stole it and he should give it back to them.

If your friend got stopped "at" the door and not outside the door there's no way he could be convicted of shoplifting.

Yeah, that's not what happened. You friend should be HONEST with the judge and pay the store back.
