I Can't Remember Most Of My Past What Would Be Some Causes?
Okay Im 15 now, everything from about 7 1/2 and back I forget. There are only three different memories I can remember from then. One being with my dad durning the summer. Two being in the city with my dad and the wind feeling really good. Three my mother being beaten by my sisters father, and him locking us in the room.
I can remember those two things vividly. Yes there are a couple little seconds I can remember from my past, but there all really faint. My bf says it's probably because my childhood past was to traumatic for me. But how am i supposed to know what happened if i can't remember? I mean yeah there are a couple of people in my past that could've been jerks and done stuff. I just wanna know if there are any other reasons.

It is possible you just don't have a very good memory. I don't recall a lot of specifics in the first 7 years of my life (though I am much older than you are). Keep in mind that your hippocampus which deals with memory isn't fully formed for a while which is why most people don't have many memories of the first 4-5 years of their lives. I wouldn't necessarily attribute it to trauma without other symptoms (nightmares, flashbacks, etc.).

your boyfriend is right. the memories was so traumatic that you blocked them out of your mind. we tend to do this when were little--especially when the memory was painful. i dont know if you will ever recall all of the past;, but dont worry about it if you dont. the brain is a mysterious thing. you never can tell what you will allow yourself to remember. my wife suffered childhood trauma. she blocked out so much that her pstchiatrist for the last ten years--doesnt know it all yet. she dont remember most of her childhood. when her oldest sister brings up the past, she dont remember it. if this bothers you a lot......, go see a therapist. get on with your present life also. there is nothing that can be redone about the past. good luck god bless.

People only remember salient features of their past, even if it was not too long ago. Recent research suggested that the more wee remember things the more corrupted the memories become. So, if you do recall the memories sometime, maybe they will be fresher than if you keep mulling them over now.

I AGREE WITH MOST OF THE ANSWERS BUT,IN MY MIND'S EYE I FEEL THAT IF GOD WANTED YOU TO REMEMBER YOU WILL SO DON'T SWEAT IT AND GO ON WITH LIFE AND HOPE THAT IT IS HEALTHY,HOPEFUL,FULFILLING,PROSPEROUS,LOVING AND ALL OF THE LOVE THAT THIS UNIVERSE CAN OFFER TO U.HOPE THAT YOU CAN MOVE ON AND JUST REMEMBER THAT SOME OF THE OLD SAYINGS ARE SOMETIMES THE BEST.LET THE PAST REMAIN THE PAST AND LET THE FUTURE SHINE LIKE A SUMMER'S DREAM.BE THANKFUL FOR WHAT YOU HAVE TO-DAY AND TRY NOT TO DWELL ON THINGS AS THEY ALSO SAY IF IT ISN'T BROKEN DON'T FIX IT. PLEASE DON'T TAKE OFFENSE OF MY MESSAGE BUT, YOU ARE YOUNG AND PROBABLY BY THE SOUNDS OF IT VERY LEVEL HEADED SO LET SLEEPING DOGS LIE.
HOPE ALL OF THE BEST.

You are unable to remember your past because of the abuse you suffered or watched others suffer. Your mind can't deal with the reality of it, so you don't remember...it's a protection that your mind developed. Therapy could help you deal with those issues...but only when YOU are ready. I am sorry for your difficulty...may life be good to you from this minute forward. kjl

Lots of people don't remember things from when they are little! don't sweat it. If it continues over the years, I would see a doctor! Good Luck!

I can't remember much of my past either. It doesn't really matter as long as you keep moving forward and know what's important to you.
