Why can't people understand that NO snake is poisonous? They are safe to eat.?

Hanoony: No snake is poisonous. They are venomous and carry venom in localized glands inside their mouths. Some snakes are front fanged, some are mid fanged and some are rear fanged, regardless of fang location, venom is injected or spit through the snakes fangs.

Snake flesh is not poisonous and it is safe to eat. I personally would never eat snake, but people need to understand that they aren't poisonous at all.

To the poster: Sheer ignorance, people believe what they hear and don't bother to look it up and find out the truth.

The problem is that you are using 'poisonous' in a very limited and specialized way- that mostly only snake people care about.

The claim is that snakes can be 'venomous' rather than 'poisonous', but this is a flawed definition.

The definition of a venom is a POISON that is administered in a way other than ingestion. All venoms are also poisons. For that matter, snakes are also 'toxic' since a toxin is a naturally occuring poison.

Most dictionaries, even scientific references, even herpetological references, call snakes poisonous or venomous almost interchangeably.

Here is the deal... 'poisonous' is accurate- the venom is indeed a poison, and if you eat the venom and it has a way to get into your bloodstream (mouth wounds, ulcers, etc.), you will be poisoned by it.

However, 'venomous' is more technically accurate- which does not make the common usage wrong.

You want to get picky about stuff- how about the fact that reptiles cannot hibernate in the sense some mammals can- they 'brumate'.

True snakes are not poisonous they are venomous people can't seem to distinguish the difference they even call them poisonous on animal planet they have scientists that should know better.

i had snake once and once i found out wat it is i took a law suit up wit the manager turns out they never were qualified to sell or make or capture that stuff i ws only 13 2 and i won now im 14 and thatz gay who the hell would eat a snake or any animal for that matter u r all meanies well we all have our own opinion but my friend said eating animals is cruelty to them like in north no wait i think south kora they eat cat and dog meat i hope they all get locked up ya soooooo there r some poisonous snaks couse i new someone who almost died from the poisonouse venom stuff gettig in their blood stream

Why can't there be world peace? Some questions just doesn't have an answer...pertaining to this one it is just a frame of mind!!! Natural bodily actions is to be grossed out when heard of snake eating......but i for one thinks it is very cool! I would be honored to eat one myself...well...not really! But to tell you the truth first time i heard that NO snake is poisonous!! You taught me something new!! thanks!! If people get to know more about it they may not react like if its grossing them out or it is alien to them!!!

it's VENOM not poison, poison is ingested

and venom is injected wich is what snakes do inject with the one exception the spitting cobra so stop calling it poison it is annoying educate yourselves people

well many people think snakes are poisonous because they don't know better. snake meat is very good and good for you. you can even drink the venom and it wont hurt u at all.
