    Persia's officail name was changed to Iran in 1935. Iran borders Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Afhganistan and Turkey, also the waters of the Caspian Sea, Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.

    First, Persia no longer exists as a political entitiy. In some sense, it is an antique name, an anachronism. Due to conflicts in the area(mainly in the Twentieth Century), the name was changed.
