Political campaign funding?

Does it bother anyone else that it takes each candidate (and their supporters and party) hundreds of millions of dollars to campaign for a job that pays less than $2 Million for the four year contracted term of employment? How will we ever get special interest groups and political favors owed out of politics?

    That's the problem!

I don't care how much anyone loves any candidate; short of being a complete fool you have to accept the fact (and it is a fact) that there will always be special interest money involved in their campaigns so long as they raise and spend that kind of money to get elected.

I'm not sure about McCain because he's been lagging in fund-raising but the Dems raised a sickly amount of money and it's likely that Obama will have blown nearly half a billion dollars by the general election. You don't get half a billion dollars from economically strapped citizens who are giving $5 or $10.

Rick: McCain is taking public financing - just heard it on ABC radio news 5 seconds ago.

Yes, money in politics is the reason nothing works for 99.9% of the people. And it's so deeply rooted that the two guys who scream about it the most, who want the system fixed the most, still can't accept public funding and raise their own money.

McCain is taking funding for two reasons.

    1. To put the screws to Obama.

    2. Because he'd have a tough time raising much more than the limit and the RNC will raise over $200 million for him anyway. Obama on the other hand will outraise the DNC 3 to 1. If McCain could raise $300 million, there's no way he takes public funding. It's a politcal move on both thier parts.
