Was pagan king Damon, of 7th century Ireland, in any way related to to the modern pagans/wiccas belief system?

King Damon was the father of St. Dymphna, who was a Christian, but I am just seeking understanding of paganism/wicca and I will report any pagan/wicca bashers.

Update:

There are many informative answers as of 11:52 A.M. and picking the best one will be challenging. Thank you for your contributions so far!

Update 2:

Some links show Damon was a chieftan, not a king, but I wanted to get some scholarly information on what kind of pagan Damon was, since the historical facts are obsure. The Dymphna links show where and when, but the only legacy we have to rely on that seem to verify the story are the miraculous cures due to her intervention, and that is up to psychiatrists to testify to the reality. It's silly to assume that pagans/wiccas worship satan, since they don't believe he exists. I hope my additional information assists those who want to answer my question.

Not in any philosophical way though there may be a similarity of imagery. Firstly we have an incomplete picture of pre-Christian religion though it is an accepted part of Wicca and Neo-Paganism that both Wicca and Neo-Paganism were instituted in the 1950's and do not have an historical lineage to ancient Pagan beliefs be those beliefs of King Damon or King Darius for that matter.

It depends on what branch of Paganism you're meaning. Reconstructionist Druids, for example, or reconstructionist Celtic Pagans probably bear some significant resemblence, in terms of belief and practice, to Damon. Wiccans, on the other hand, although they might very well respect and even (in some cases) worship some of the same dieties observe some of the same holidays and even use some of the same terms, would have only a nodding relationship (moslty in terms of basic philosophy) with Damon.

    BTW, I am a Wiccan.

If he was a pagan (as you say), and much is known about him, he may have provided some source material for Celtic reconstuctionist pagans.

I think the story may be a variant on Dermot and Grania

    ----

There do appear to some links between "old" European paganism and modern paganism. How they get there is difficult to explain unless there is some kind of shared knowledge/beliefs. eg Leyand's Aradia does seem to reference certain older rites. Even if Leyand "made much up", and falsified a historical claims of a CONTINUOUS decent of knowledge, it STILL provides a kind of continuity, abet not one where student becomes teacher, and then passes that knowledge one. Why? because he kept some of the knowledge going in a discontinuous decent.

(Perhaps Aradia isn't seen as PC enough, it does contain references to Lucifer, abet with him as "the light bringer").

Wicca? No. Pretty much not. I know that Celtic and Gaelic are very fashionable, but Wicca's pretty much *English* a little Brythonic Celt, but not much.

Outside of Wicca, it is possible there was a cult following* that influenced at least one Reconstructionist movement.

    Related? Related in what way?

The neo-paganism religions of today are all NEW. They may be based on some ideas left over from earlier times but the pagan religions of today are not old religions brought back.
