Is CUSTOMER SERVICE a lost art?
It seems like I'm not the only one after I took this poll with people. So I am asking it here. In my opinion, customer service is a lost art. This is about customer service when you call and talk to someone over the phone with your credit card company, or a store, or even the unemployment office. Most are rude, as if they are doing you a favor. You try to be the nice person over the phone. Asking them how they're doing, and the information you need help with. I don't know if it's the training. I don't know if those people are having a bad day. BUT, if you are CUSTOMER SERVICE.....I'm sorry, that is what you signed up and get paid for. You should suck it up and be helpful. When I go to work I check my drama at the door. Anyone else feel the same?
As I said, not all companies are like this. And I always ask them how they are doing FIRST. I always think that if you treat them nicely first, then it should come back. But this isn't the case. And YES, some customers can be rude, I've seen/heard that too. But that's not the point.
One more thing. I will always pay more for great customer service. Hands down.

I agree. I think that too many people feel overworked, underpaid and are generally less friendly. Everyone is in a rush, everyone has somewhere they'd rather be. Plus, I don't think that a lot of schools teach the values of customer service. It's all about getting ahead, business practices etc. I recently moved to a small town and it is like living in a time warp because all of the little shops and restaurants have people working in them that are truly invested in their business. It is such a breath of fresh air. Yes, customers can be rude, but it is my opinion that one should see those customers as a challenge. Some of the most demanding people can converted into the most loyal.

I totally agree. And I do believe it's lack of training and generally people aren't happy with their lives.
Although, I will say, yesterday I had to make several calls to various companies and they were all top notch customer service and It just tickled me pink to know all is not lost!! They were each cheerful and helpful and professional. It really made my day. It's just too bad that those are the exception to the norm these days. Let's hope it turns around.......

In some cases, yes it is a lost art. When my younger son was born, we had some trouble with his SSN not arriving. Well, I called around to the hospital, our local SS offoce and the federal SS office. The hospital was decent, as was the local office, but the federal office, whom I talked to 3 or 4 times, was terrible! One lady I talked to there yelled at me about something the lady from the local office told me. She said I had no right to have the information I had. When I told her this was my son and I certainly did have a right to the info, she got nasty and told me I just had to wait for his info like everyone else (we didn't receive his SS card till he was 2 months old). I sincerely hope I never have to deal with them again!

Depends on the company. Most places have great customer service. If you get treated badly, take your business somewhere else.

Yes, the other day at a department store these two clerks played ping pong with me and my mom. One told us to go to the other, then she sent us back to the original saying" she's just too lazy, go on back to her". Then when the one lady finally rang us up, she was rude and the prices were wrong.
