If a dentist marks a tooth as "watch"?

as in, there's a tiny amount of decay and he's concerned it may need treatment at some point, how often does it NOT progress any further?

Is there a chance that the teeth he marked as "watch" may not get worse, or is it really just a case of waiting until the decay gets bigger and warrants a filling? A year ago he marked down two of my teeth as "watch" - I have an appointment next month for a check up and was just wondering what the chances are that I'll now need fillings in them.

It really depends on how well you take care of them. Sometimes using fluoride can strengthen the enamel enough to ward off anymore decay from forming.

I have seen some watches stay that way for years. Others have developed into a cavity pretty quickly. It all depends on the patients habits and home care. Someone who drinks alot of sodas, consumes alot of sugar, and doesn't have excellent home care, their watches are bound to turn into actual cavities.
