I need some advice here please......?
I normally live in England and am registered with a dentist down there, however following a car accident I'm back home in Scotland while I recover, which could potentially be for another couple of months.
I have a wisdom tooth trying to come through but there's no room in my mouth for it and it's growing kind of diagonally out of my gum rather than straight up through the gum. It's partially impacted and I think I've probably got a bit of pericoronitis (infection of the gum around the tooth). It's pretty painful where it's trying to come in, and I think I probably need to see a dentist about it, but I'm 250 miles away from mine.
Anyone know how I go about being seen by a dentist up here where I'm not registered with anyone? I can't afford to go private, so it would need to be NHS.
2 AnswersDental1 decade agoIs this normal? Anyone else like this?
I'm 26 years old, female, single, straight. Not particularly interested in sex, I don't really enjoy it at all for some reason, but my biggest issue is with oral sex - the thought of putting a penis in my mouth makes me feel physically sick, I just can't bring myself to do it. Was with a guy last night who wanted me to do it, and although I really fancy him, there was absolutely no way I could do it.
Is anyone else like this or have they been like this and got over it? If so, how? Any advice?
10 AnswersWomen's Health1 decade agoAre these cavities in my teeth?
I have a few teeth that have some darkish lines and stuff on them, I've looked on the internet and this is the closest picture to how they look
http://www.dental9.net/pictures/resina%20ant.jpg
They don't hurt or anything, but it has been a while since I was last at the dentist. I brush my teeth twice a day, in the morning and before I go to bed and I don't drink much fizzy juice but I do eat quite a lot of sweet sugary stuff I suppose.
Are these cavities in my teeth? Will I need fillings?
10 AnswersDental1 decade agoSensitivity to sanitary products?
Recently I've been quite itchy down below and it seems like I might be allergic or sensitive to sanitary towels/panty liners. Which has never been a problem before, I wear a panty liner every day and haven't changed brands. I only use sanitary towels on the first and last days of my period when the bleeding is too light to use a tampon, but generally they haven't caused problems.
I wondered about the possibility of thrush, although I don't have any symptoms of it other than the itching, but I've just taken a single dose of fluconazole (canesten) in case it is.
Just wondered if anyone else had experienced similar problems, and if there are any particular brands of sanitary towels etc that are less likely to cause irritation, or any other general advice.
3 AnswersWomen's Health1 decade agoShould you avoid chewy foods when you have fillings?
Just wondered........there are always people who won't eat toffees etc because they say "oooh no, it'll pull out my fillings", but I've got a lot of fillings recently (never had any before a couple of years ago) and just wondered if there was any truth in that - I mean surely fillings should be really secure in your tooth and shouldn't come out with chewy foods?!
4 AnswersDental1 decade agoPCOS and need help with my skin?
I'm 26, I have polycystic ovaries which means I tend to have problems with spots but I'm already on Dianette and have been for 4 years. Generally my skin isn't too bad, but I've ALWAYS got spots on my chin. I hate it, it makes me really self conscious because I'm 26 and feel I should have grown out of this problem by now. I've tried various different over the counter cleansers and creams etc and none of them seem to make any real difference. Any advice??
1 AnswerWomen's Health1 decade agoIf a dentist marks a tooth as "watch"?
as in, there's a tiny amount of decay and he's concerned it may need treatment at some point, how often does it NOT progress any further?
Is there a chance that the teeth he marked as "watch" may not get worse, or is it really just a case of waiting until the decay gets bigger and warrants a filling? A year ago he marked down two of my teeth as "watch" - I have an appointment next month for a check up and was just wondering what the chances are that I'll now need fillings in them.
3 AnswersDental1 decade agoAnyone else have a clear pattern to their depression?
I was diagnosed with depression 4 years ago. Some days are better than others, things have been getting progressively worse again over the past 6 months or so. But there seems to be a clear pattern, that my worst days are at the end of the week, Thursday evening through to Monday morning - I can function reasonably OK in the early part of the week, but by the time it gets to Thursday I can't be bothered with anything, I can't concentrate and I feel really low and tearful for no reason. Right now I just feel terrible, and it seems to be happening more and more often. I'm already on a maximum dose of medication. Does anyone have any theory as to why there is such a clear pattern? And does anyone else have similar experience?
3 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoHow long should I be able to keep my contacts in for?
I started wearing contact lenses around about Easter this year. Initially (after the first few days) I could keep them in for most of the day without any problems. But gradually I've had to take them out earlier and earlier because my eyes feel very dry and sore. Now I can only wear them for 4-6 hours before my eyes get really dry, and when I take them out my eyes feel very irritated.
I use Specsavers disposable soft lenses if that makes a difference. I always clean and disinfect them as directed. Are there different lenses which would be better for me to use?
1 AnswerOther - Health1 decade agoWhat's the best diet for a cat?
I'm getting a cat soon and was just wondering what I should be feeding it. Some people seem to advise dry food, others wet food. We have had cats at home since I was little and always fed them exclusively on wet, tinned cat food with a few pieces of dry food occasionally as a treat.
What's the current advice on what to feed? And how often?
9 AnswersCats1 decade agoChafing thighs......?
So it's officially summer, and I want to wear a skirt because it's so much cooler, but I'm a bit overweight and at the top of my legs the inner thighs rub and it gets REALLY painful. I've tried talcum powder, which works really well but only for a short time. Does anyone have any suggestions (other than losing weight lol!) to stop this from happening so that I can wear a skirt?
4 AnswersWomen's Health1 decade agoCan you change a cat's name?
I'm going to get a cat soon when I move house, I know someone who has a cat she inherited from her sister, and she doesn't really want to keep it, so I've said I'll have it. It's only 8 months old, but has a name that I REALLY don't like. If I start calling her something else, will she learn a new name? Or will it just be too confusing for her?
33 AnswersCats1 decade agoI don't know what to do with myself?
I was diagnosed with depression 4 years ago, and have been on medication since then. Also been seeing a psychiatrist off and on and have had a few sessions with a psychologist. It took a while to find a medication that worked, but two years ago I noticed a huge difference when I started taking Venlafaxine. I'm currently on the maximum dose. Just as a bit of background info.
Recently things have started getting pretty bad again. Right now I feel absolutely terrible, I'm not actively suicidal but I would rather be dead than alive, and I'd love to just go to sleep and never wake up. I have no idea why I feel like this, I have no reason to - I've got a good job, enough money, and this week I've passed my driving test and had an offer accepted on a house........so I should be happy, but I just feel SO crap. I can't even put it into words how bad I feel. I want to cry but I can't, and there's no point anyway. I don't know what to do.
7 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoI've had a really good day, so why do I feel like crying?
Today I passed my driving test (after several attempts) and I had an offer accepted on a house..........initially this afternoon I was really happy and excited, but now a few hours later I feel really low and like I'm going to cry. I have no idea why though. I do suffer from depression, not sure whether that could be related or not.
Anyone else experience things like this? Is there any reason for it??
5 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoHow do I find out how old a house is?
I've just had an offer accepted on a house (in the UK) and I've been advised that if it's more than about 60 years old, I'll need a full structural survery done, whereas if it's not that old I can save a few hundred pounds by just getting a home buyers survey instead. How do I find out how old it is? Is there a website somewhere that I can look it up?

2 AnswersOther - Home & Garden1 decade agoCan you make an offer on a house before your mortgage is sorted out?
I'm living in the UK, first time buyer and really don't know much about buying etc. I've seen a house that I really like, but I know someone else is interested in it and I'm worried they'll get in with an offer before I do. Unfortunately, my mortgage isn't actually sorted out yet - I'm waiting for a letter from my employer confirming my salary when I start my new job in August - and without that I can't get a mortgage agreement. The letter should HOPEFULLY arrive within the next few days.
So I was just wondering whether I could make an offer on the house without actually having a mortgage agreement yet?
1 AnswerRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoWhen is it right to take time off work for depression?
I've really struggled with depression over the last 4 years but have never taken time off sick, during my final two years at university and over the past two years, work. I've had several doctors suggesting I take time off and offering to sign me off sick, but I've always refused on the grounds that at least when I'm working it gives me a reason to get out of bed in the morning, and occupies me for at least 8 hours a day.
Recently I seem to be struggling again, I'm not sleeping, I find it very difficult to concentrate and focus, and I made a mistake at work today which could potentially have been very serious. At what point should you consider being signed off sick? I'm worried that without work, I'll have nothing to occupy my time and I'll just end up spending all my time in bed.
8 AnswersMental Health1 decade agoAnyone else feel like a different person at work?
I feel as though I'm a totally different person when I'm at work compared to when I'm at home. I'm a doctor (relatively junior) and at work I'm relatively confident, outgoing, and I know I'm good at my job. I get on really well with the nurses I work with and I enjoy my job. I'm generally happy when I'm at work.
But as soon as I come home I'm racked with insecurities - I have absolutely no self esteem, I hate myself, I feel completely worthless and useless and from time to time I feel very suicidal and knock myself out with sleeping tablets to make sure I don't do anything stupid. I'm on treatment for depression and have been for the past 4 years, I've also struggled with self harm over the past 4 years.
I just don't understand how things can be so different when I'm at work. It's literally as though I'm two different people (I'm not saying I have DID or anything like that!). Does anyone else feel like this or have any advice?
