Should you avoid chewy foods when you have fillings?

Just wondered........there are always people who won't eat toffees etc because they say "oooh no, it'll pull out my fillings", but I've got a lot of fillings recently (never had any before a couple of years ago) and just wondered if there was any truth in that - I mean surely fillings should be really secure in your tooth and shouldn't come out with chewy foods?!

I have some fillings too and have ate chewy candy. I also heard its bad but they are so good. Of coarse the filling should be secure. I think the composite (white) fillings are less secure since they are bonded with a light.♣♠

Hi I have had a couple of fillings come out when I have been chewing sweets. The first time a little bit of the fillings had already fallen out and the sweet just bought the rest of the filling out and the second time there was a slight crack in the fillings and the sweet bought the whole filling out, it wasn't too bad as I was going to the dentist a few days later to have the filling changed to a white one. My other fillings have been fine but I don't eat that many sweets these days, I prefer chocolate instead.

I think crunching sweets would cause more damage and eating something hot than cold immediately after, as the filling is going to expand then contract and then possible crack.

I've had fillings for yeeears, and I eat a lot of chewy foods. Its just fine. Its not good for your teeth if its sugary, for obvious reasons, but it wont pull your fillings out as far as I know.

Avoid certain types of gum. The best gum which is the best for your teeth is Trident.

Avoid starburst and especially now and laters. Fillings can definitely come out or maybe wear away. Mines did before!
