Moving,What to take?

My husband and I will be moving from a house into an apt.

How does one decide what to take? Personally I would like to

keep it very simple.

Any suggestions?

first list essentials, things you must have. then list things of value to you that you would like to keep. if you haven't touched it for a year, it needs to go. weed out old clothing, appliances, books, bedding and linens, kitchen items. all excess needs to go. items of more value on e-bay. items of lesser value in a moving or garage sale. leftovers donated to s-army. if you have large stuffed toys or souveniers or stuff

that takes up room and has emotional value, take a picture of it. pictures keep memories alive without having to store everything. moving is a great time to freshen up you life and start over. good luck in your new place!

When my mum and her now husband moved from a largish three storey town house to a smaller home, they didn't have enough room for all their furniture. They moved the bigger non essential items like cupboards etc into a storage room they rented then later sold what they had left on Ebay. It might be worth renting storage room before the move so items can be taken there quickly if they're too big for the new house or simply won't be needed.

As for what you'll need, it'll depend on what you have in the new place. Is it partially furnished at all? Some properties are, particularly the kitchens, so just take the essentials: Bed, chairs, tables and some cupboards for clothes. Also make a good collection of cleaning products so you can clean the new place as you go.

Simple is definitely better. I would only take what is absolutely necessary (like small appliances, lamps, dishes, etc), things I absolutely need (sheets, towels, etc), and thing I cannot live without (you decide here). the rule of thumb is if you have not used it in six months, you probably do not need it. How much space do you have for furniture and storage? That should start to be some guide. How far away is the apt? Will it be more expensive to transport it than to buy new? We plan to move cross-country so we are not planning to take much. Good luck.

THEN KEEP IT SIMPLE, TAKE MAJOR FURNITURE ITEMS AND PERSONAL ITEMS. HAVE A MOVING SALE AND YOU CAN USE THAT MONEY TO GO IN ANY DIRECTION YOU WANT TO IN YOUR NEW PLACE.
