What's the best bass bait for catching bass?
and can I use that one bass bait for carp, trout and catfish? Please tell me in great detail why and why not. Thank you!
I am looking for a single lure to use on all species during all seasons, conditions, etc...so I can get rid of a lot of stuff I will no longer need. ;-)
I will be using this rod:

Now kind sir you do not state the type of structure you will be fishun!
For lite line fishin that may be a good set up but if you try for them in heavy cover that rig will not work.
I would personally use a penn SBTB rod and a 22/0 penn BTT reel spooled with 2000 yards of 900lb super bungee braid!
The SBTB (snatchem by the balls) rod is tournement grade IM 100 med/hvy and when used with the matching reel (22/0 big toad tosser) you have the best combo for bustin big ole bass from the heaviest cover. And the new bungee braid in 900lb strength but it only has the diameter of 1lb test line has the strength and sensortivity needed by todays fisherman.
I use this set up when jiggin with live hogs (my prefered method fer rooten out the big boys)!
Now while trout fishin I juz switch overn to me zeebo fly flitteren reel which works very well with the SBTB series rod.And oh boy oh boy just change overn to the shellacy 5000 reel for snatchen those carp!
If you would like I will spend more time goin over the topwater and the worming use of the SBTB rod but for now I have to go I got another tournement to win so later folks! Check out ESPPN for tournement high lights!!

The best lure to catch all 4 species would be a crawfish.
Bass, it's been long known by many fisherman that all bass consume crawfish. That's why there are so many crawfish lures on the market and I'm sure you have a couple in the old tackle box to prove that point. For Carp, although they eat detriment almost entirely, they do supplement their diets by eating worms, grass shrimp, crawfish and bugs. It's not the main diet but they do need their protein in some form. Also, many fly fisherman have used crawfish patterns to catch carp.
Trout, not knowing the species, I will assume you are talking about the ones with the pink flesh color. The pink flesh color comes from eating shrimp, crawfish and other crustaceans. I can't recall the name of the chemical that turns the flesh pink from these crustaceans but that's why it's pink. That's why a crawfish lure will work on them as well. As for the catfish, we all know that these are bottom feeders and they too enjoy eating crawfish. Many a cat has fallen to 2/0-3/0 hooks threaded with a jumbo crawfish tail threaded on. Also, it's a dietary supplement for catfish as well besides the normal chicken livers tossed out by the tons across the United States.
Well, there ya go. Hope that helps ya. I would have gotten all into detail with the science and all but I couldn't stop laughing from the fishing pole link and the spinning reel. I lost all concentration with that one. ~ good luck catchin.
~Exert, man, you can haul up sunken boats with that rod. LMAO.
~Injun, you killing me man! I can't breathe anymore..LMAO Live Hogs. I have a weaker set up and can only cast out chicken livers... still attached to the chicken! L.O.L>

Forget the best bait - every bait is a best bait under certain conditions in certain places Best bait for shallow lake conditions- a spinner bait-Best bait for grassy conditions- a senko type lure fished weightless and rigged weedless Texas style-best lure for deep structure- any of the plastics weighted and rigged Texas style or deep running divers- best bait for shallow points- shallow running crankbaits or plastics or if in late spring or summer, top water baits- as you can see, there is no one bait for all conditions.
The lures that will catch bass will not catch carp, and only occasionally catch trout or catfish- hope this helped you a little. good luck and good fishing!

ROFLMAO
Although I am not sure what the best bait might be (but I think it just may be Cheetos) you can improve your odds by using a Penn Reel and an Ugly-Stik
Quick fried on cloudy days
Baked on sunny days

You can use plastic worms (Sencos) for all year. Als top water "Poppers" work great for all season expecially in the evening. Crank baits are good to but their are so many to choose from it can be a gamble to which ones will work. Just remiember that bright colors in murkey water and dull or green colors on clear shallow water.

Hi Exert.
Sand eels are favourite food of Bass but you can also use ragworms or mackerel. I sometimes use two types of bait on one hook which works a treat.
When I use a 3 hook paternosta, at times put different baits on each hook. I find this enhances the scents

live shad is the best by far but they aren't available i use artificial shad and a great can of shad scent...also catch alot on minnows and corn right out of the can

Definitely use worms and lures to catch all kinds of bass. Lures are the best though. Lures allow to catch 10 pounders.
