broadband speed?

i have just upped my broadband speed from 1 to up to 8 but my computer says i am still only receiving 1. i phoned my supplier Pipex and they said i should be receiving around 5 in the area i'm in, but couldn't really explain why i wasn't. any ideas guys

    It depends on several things. Where you are living & your distance from the exchange, If you note it is up to 8mbs.Im up to 8mbs but only receiving 0.5mbs because of living too far into the country. Phone & have the exchange distance tested. (thats the BT Exchange.Thats your main telepohne line.) Afterall BT own all the lines & they install them all. Im with BT & they still cant help me!!!!

    there is misunderstanding here . the speed u r reading on ur computer screen is not the broadband speed .. its the wireless speed or LAN speed . If u wanna check the speed of your internet use this website http://www.speedtest.net/

    NOTE: just to let u know that u will never receive 8mgb or u might get close from that number in the late hours due to a lot of factors ( number of users in the same area , the land lines ability and the honesty of the broadband company ;) ) good luck

    listen here,,,iwent witrh pipex and they stunk of poo, i also went with 2 other who promised me 8 meg and came no0where near,,,the only one that has given me full 8 meg is bt

    At peak times you will get less

    I'm on 16mb with sky buy i get 5mb at best!

    It's pathetic but you're not the only one with this problem

    i always use thinkbroadband .com and find these people very helpfull give them a try.
