How can you tell when a Papaya is ripe?

I work in the Produce section of a Store, and one of the fruits we sell are Papaya, but how can I tell if one of these is Ripe? OverRipe? or Not-Yet Ripe?

    ripe to eat is one thing...but geen papayas carry the worlds strongest digestive enzime ...try boiling green papayas(cut in cubes) with a chicken ...then throw it on the grill ...THE most tender chicken you'll ever have!!!!!!!!!
