If atheism is not a religion, they why do they hang out on the religion and spirituality boards so much??

To annoy people and tear them down. I saw a recent survey that said less than 8% of Americans are atheists and one fifth of tthose atheists said they believe in God. Go figure.

They all are just pissed and don't want to confront people personally so they go on the internet and insult people..oooh how hardcore.

Partly it's that anyone can have an interest in religion, and as noted above, being an atheist doesn't mean not having spirituality as a human being.

Partly, I think, it's that some people like to argue. So there are atheists on the religion board, anti-Semites on the Israel board, misogynists on the Women's Studies board, anti-evolutionists on the Biology board just picking fights, or trying to be annoying, or trying to convert those with whom they disagree where they congregate.

ATHEIST - someone who does not believe in a God – any God – not just the Christian one. But that does not mean they do not hold strong moral or religious beliefs! They can follow any religion that does not have a god and there are a lot of those!!

Like BUDDHISM – Religious teaching from Buddha and his followers that by destroying greed, hatred and delusion (the cause of all suffering) man can attain perfect enlightenment!!

Atheists of all persuasions still outnumber the Christians and Muslims combined and are far more humane!!

Just try reading a small sample of Christian postings on here!!!

Intolerant, egotistical, hate filled and bigoted!! Eschewing education, science, evolution works of fiction and much, much more. Christians are the only religion opposing human rights and persecuting gays, pro choice and so much more - but far worse whilst they demand freedom of religion they deny it to all non Christians and persecute them!!!

Atheists are here trying to get Christians to be more humane, give up those terrible human emotions and get them to rediscover their god of love and forgiveness!!!!

Come on - give it a try - it will make you a far better christian and a much nicer person!!!

That's a great point. Since atheists ask and answer questions ABOUT religion, then atheism must BE a religion. Very clever, you are.

while atheism is as varied and diverse as Christianity in their underlying dogma. its roll in spiritual growth is just as effective....consider it a phase. atheism is something the majority of people grow out of. however there are some people who thrive on just a non belief system....there are actually very few true atheists. belief, weather in one self or god or society as a part or whole is a base human desire ...primarily belief systems help us to explain away fear and uncertainty in our lives

Notice, it's the religion AND Spirituality section. Atheists can be spiritual.

Also, you don't have to be religious or spiritual to discuss the topics involved.

Thankfully your understanding is not required. However, I would say you should try to exercise some form of creative thought and interpretation of information sometime, just for personal development. Because really, you'll get nowhere in life without them.

Atheists are here because when they tried to discuss religion in the cats section, they kept getting violation notices.
