A good island?

What are some island's out there that have most of the modern amenities of normal life.....given they are on an island... so I wouldn't expect everything to be the same.

also when I ask this question I don't mean Hawaii...

and what do you think the life you would lead there would be like, and would it be expensive, would you be an outcast since you came there rather than being born there????

this is intriguing to me!

My most favorite island is Sardinia. I lived at the northern end, Santa Teresa di Gallura, for over 3 years. That town was very pro-American, especially those who lived during WW2 because when the American army ran the Germans out of Corsica, through Sardinia and into North Africa, they stayed in Santa Teresa for a while. There was little food in town and when the soldiers ate, the locals also ate. My neighbor told me of this and told me of taking food home after eating with the Americans. There were about 70 American families living in Santa Teresa and we were all treated so very well by the locals. I have many stories of our experience there and NONE were negative. My wife still corresponds every few months with one of her lady friends there (since 1976).

My second favorite island was Mallorca, Spain. Mallorca is a tourist island so EVERYONE with money is made welcome.

My 3rd favorite is New Zealand. It is a very friendly (for the most part) country. Everyone I met treated me quite nicely. I even met a couple of Maoris and one took me to spend several days on the west side of the island with his family.

uhh, the caribbean islands have actual roads, and cars, and houses, and, (gasp) technology just like the U.S.!!! (sorry, couldn't help the sarcasm). but seriously, it's not like the people there are living primitively. they're just like any other country in the world: very rich areas, very poor areas, some developed commercial areas, some rural, etc. it depends on how you live in regards to how expensive it can be. us money typically has more value than money from each of these islands (but damn, it could get expensive sometimes!) you may or may not be treated nicely depending on who you meet on whichever island.
