what's the best way to get rid of fleas in your back yard?
i have a beagle/basset mix and a mini dauscand and they are covered in fleas. i've given them bath after bath with special flea and tick shampoo. it seems to work, then they go out in the yard to go potty, and they are covered again. my husband sprayed the back yard with a flea and tick spray, let it sit over night, and it didn't rain or anything. i just can't understand why they are so hard to get rid of. any ideas? besides burning it all off... i've already told my husband this IS NOT an option. (we live in an older neighborhood in the middle of town.
as neither suggestion is a viable option...
are there any HELPFUL ideas?

I used to use a flea killer granule that you spread over the yard. Also would put 10% Sevin around the house and underneath (my house was raised and was great breeding ground for the fleas). But the one thing you should do is to go to a veterinarian and purchase the Advantage or Frontline.. they come in vials and you put it just behind the pup's head on the neck area where they can't lick it off. Just bathing will not do it. So treat the animal, wash their bedding, and then do the yard all at once. It might take a few applications but it will get done.

The best things to due is treat your animal with Frontline PLUS, no bath 3 days before and after, and when you do give a bath regular doggie shampoo no flea products it'll was off, and it's okay for 3 months for flea protection, then get some Sevin it's a powder for the lawn at Walmart. It's take time if it's a large problem but will go away:)
I've been using the frontline plus only for 12 yrs on 4 dogs and 4 cats no fleas and no ticks:)
The Flea tick shampoo will only work while they are wet and kill what's on them, then it's fare game again, and also to much with cause dry, itchy skin and more problems then you need, check on line it's much cheaper than the vet or tractor supply, best of luck`

your backyard and the surrounding yards are infested with fleas.
best thing to do is go to Home Depot or your local lawn and garden center or hardware store, ask for something that will kill fleas in your yard. also go to your vet and get something for your pet like frontline or whatever you use. next, clean your house very well and use a flea and tick powder on all the floors. sounds like you have an infestation that you need to treat harshly with as many forms of flea and tick killer as possible but still being safe with their use and application.

your best bet is to get a flea product such as advantage premeris or frontline from the vet's to apply to the dogs and get a pro to spray the yard ask the vet for capstar too a pill that starts killing fleas almost imediately do not use over the counter flea meds they do not work and sometimes cause other problems

Use Diatomaceous Earth it kills Ants, Fleas, Ticks, Cockroaches, Earwigs, Slugs, Beetles, Flies, Silverfish, Bed Bugs and many other pests, naturally, without harsh synthetic chemicals! You can buy it at most pool supply shops and it's not really that expensive and is safe around animals and children. here is a link about it http://www.dirtworks.net/Diatomaceous-Earth.html
