Bought car on 6/3/08 and still haven't gotten my title work...?
I've never had it take this long to get my title work after a car purchase. I called the finance manager on Monday and he seemed unconcerned by it and just said to call him if we hadn't gotten it by the middle of next week. Well, Indiana only allows 30 days to have the plates transferred or the slap you with a $21 late title fee.
I sent the general manager a certified letter informing him of my concern regarding our title work not getting here yet and that they would be expected to reimburse us of the $21 late fee. Other than, we might still get the title work on time. Who knows?
Has anyone else been in this situation? I'm not exactly sure what to do if we don't get by next week.
Called the bank - they don't have any of the information (title, etc)...just said to tell them that w/o a title they'll cancel the loan after a few months.
In Indiana (we bought the car in KY), they said to send written notice after 21 days that you have not gotten the title work yet (which I did today in the form of a certified letter) - from then, they have 10 days to send it. After that, you have the option to return the car for a full refund.
Hopefully, we'll get the title work soon. I just wonder if they did actually sell the car w/o having the title (maybe the previous owner still has a balance). I guess time will tell.

In Indiana the title must be given to you upon purchase of the vehicle. At least it use to be that way ( I am in Anderson). my dad had a used car lot. You might call the local license branch and ask them, they may also be able tell you what can be done about it. If its financed you still get the original title they just put a lien on it.

If the car is financed, you will get a "copy" of the title for registration. The company you bought the car from should have the original and give it to the finance company. Call the company that is carrying the loan and inquire.

Call the DMV report the dealership and see if it legal to sell a car without title. and then go to court to undo the deal(Small claims for under the state limit or try the DA.) It doesn't seem to have title and makes the car useless to you or could be stolen. You've been victimized and want to be compensated......Each state has different laws, the other guy could be right.
