New "country" Pop Divas versus Real Country Divas?

What is your take on the Pop princesses Taylor, Carrie and Kelly versus the legends (DOLLY, LORETTA, AND PATSY) or even the newer queens (Martina and Reba).

Why do YOU feel that these girls are taking over the Country Music Stations? And do you think that they should???

I feel that the younger generation is losing out. They don't realize it now, because they are so caught up in how much they "love" taylor & carrie...But I have a feeling as they grow older they will come to find the legends, Loretta , Tammy, Tanya. I know I give a lot of crap the the fans of taylor, but I guess I remember being a teen and listening to music like (sshh don't tell anyone) new kids on the block...and everyone older then me said how bad they sucked, and I didn't care, I just LOVED them...A few years passed and I started becoming more mature, wanting to find other options besides what the media was telling me to listen to. I always listened to country (growing up on 80's and 90's country), but then wanting to go back and find out about music from before my time. First it was Hank, then Waylon...and soon I found myself listening more to them, and less to what was becoming popular in the here and now. I think in time today's youth will come to know what real country singers are, and wonder why they wasted their time being starstruck by the likes of the bubblegum blonde takeover...(on note, I do like Miranda Lambert, and I think she is overlooked due to the fact she doesn't sing about boys and dress like a barbie doll)

My take on what you call the "Country Pop Diva's" is that they can not make a pimple on Loretta, Dolly or Patsy's Butt!

Patsy, Loretta and Dotty, Kitty all have God given talent, and in their heydays country music did not rely on the artist's look but on the actual talent of the artist. These ladies can really sing, this list includes in my opinion Reba, Martina and Trisha. These ladies paid more dues than the girls today, they paved the road for women in the country music industry, they are Women Legends in Country Music and will be remembered 50 years from now.

The so called "Country Pop Diva's" are commercial and that is why they are taking over the radio, country music is now just like any other business, it wants its share of the $$$.

They get these cute little girls, that can sing a little, put them in the studio, and mix the music so it sounds better, then they pour them in skimpy clothes, take their pictures, and viola...a new country star... popular with the younger crowd.

I'm with Tex.....lol... They are doing it and it won't ever stop RJ. Do you remember a group called the Monkees. Well, these kids were picked from a profile that was cast for them. None had anything to do with music except Mike Nesmith and was extremely limited. They were thrown together to produce images and sounds of certain fads. Producers found that they could mold images to these certain fads and capitalize big time..and they haven't stopped. If you only new how many true musicans and song writers are passed over for a more marketable image. It is all about sales.... and always will be. There will be a new one tomorrow. And a good talented musican leaving his guitar in the dumpster of the Nashville bus depot. because...it's not about that any more. The age group that often falls prey to media hype and airwave saturation...is...... Well they have big money from somewhere...(moms and dads)... Very few today that have the stuff to go super star, will even get ashot at an album. And thats not even the logjam....any knuckle head can cut a cd these days.... You have to have the payola and the juice to get it played and packaged with a video.... I'm sure you won't get any long answers on this one so I'll stop. Thnx

I think the newer country Divas need to pay alot of respect to those who have come before them. But i do feel that times change. Every genre of music has it's past and present. Pop fans complain that music today dosn't sound like it did when Elvis and The Beatles were on the radio. Hip Hop fans miss the sounds of Run DMC, Pac, and Biggie. Rockers still think AC/DC and the Stones are the real classics. And country is no different. Durring the 50's, country was a VERY male dominant genre. And the "legends" (as we call them) really paved the way and opened up country music for the girls to come. And each woman in country was in with the times. What i mean by that is that Reba and Martina don't sound (musicly) like Dolly, Loretta, or Patsy. And the girls of today don't sound like Reba or Martina (the previous generation).

Country music has changed over time. Country evolved from the old folk music (when was the last time you heard camptown races on the radio?). And you don't hear country music stars singing about working in the coal mines anymore like Tennessee Ernie Ford did, or being a coal miners daughter like Loretta Lynn did. And country music has changed even more. Today, country has almost a rock-ish sound to it. It has changed so much from 10 years ago when Martina ruled the radio, or 20 yeras ago when Reba was on top, or 40 years ago when Dolly had the reins. I personally think that the girls of today are doing nothing more than trying to keep up with where country music is going. (alot of guys in country have the same sound as the girls). And with album sales at where they are, they're doing a pretty good job at it. I don't think that the new girls will ever become legends like some of the other females from back in the day, but they are singing things that the modern everyday girl can relate to. I personally know a few girls that feel like Taylor does in "picture to burn". And i think it's safe to say that there's alot of girls that have been cheated on that would love to do what Carrie did to her guys truck. Since so many can rlate to these songs, the radio stations are going to keep playing them because they keep getting requested. So I think these girls are legends in their own right. They may not be timeless like the women of old, but i don't think they will be forgotten.

I don't see a "VS" here at all. In fact, you're almost talking about 3 completely different genres of music, and its the young girls' turn. I can offer this though:

Patsy Cline- Silky smooth, best voice of her generation

Loretta Lynn- A lot of guts, went way out there for her time

Dolly Parton- One of the most underrated songwriters ever

Reba McIntyre- In my opinion, she introduced the soaring female voice to country music, and even though I am not personally a fan, without her, all the rest of the "pipes" girls wouldn't have had a chance.

Martina McBride- The best there is, and guts to sing about issues that nobody else will touch.

Taylor Swift- Rumor has it she writes her own songs...if thats true, the little girl has some talent.

Carrie Underwood- Don't particularly like her music, but you gotta love the power in that voice.

Kelly Pickler- Lucky she won American Idol

I think you left an important one out.....Lee Ann Rimes is the Tanya Tucker of the 00's. Great singer, had to grow into herself, and now she's back. I personally think she'll be around for many years to come.

The problem is that, when Dolly and Loretta were having hits, you could still hear the "past" queens like Kitty or Patsy. That's not happening today.

And, there's a reason for that: play Taylor next to Loretta and you're going to quickly realize they are NOT singing the same type of music!

    I'll take Loretta Lynn,Dolly Parton,Tanya Tucker,Connie Smith,Donna Fargo,The Mandrell Sisters,Patsy Cline,Kitty Wells,Jean Sheppard,Wanda Jackson,Tammy Wynette,Dottie West over the whole lot of the "New" country chicks.

You just like to get em' all riled up don't ya? lol... I'll go with cavemans answer... a lot of these newbies are just passing through and in a few years we will be asking "What ever happened to.. Whats her face?" Their is no way they will outlast the greats in this buisness. They will make there millions and walk away. Mean while years from now we will still be talking about Lorretta, Reba,Dolly,Patsy and the other legends.

There is no comparison...these girls are indeed taking over todays "country" stations, however the genre, and music in general has become a business before anything else. It is all about what sells, and right now that's what sells....

there's no doubt that the older country singers(DOLLY,LORETTA,PATSY) will always be best.... The new pop princesses are good but they will never be as good
