    Hi there,

Gums should be pink or pigmented with black. Pale gums can be a sign of anemia. Red, inflamed gums are often a sign of gingivitis or other periodontal disease. The dog should have no bleeding or foul breath either.

It's natural for there to be the odd spot of black on there, but a lot could indicate a possible problem. You did the right thing booking her in to see a vet, they will be able to have a proper look and tell you if you need to be worried.

Try not to worry too much though, the vet will help you out, and it's only natural to worry.

Hope everything works out and Winnie is healthy and happy.

    All the best, Dave

Gums should be pink or pigmented with black. Pale gums can be a sign of anemia. Red, inflamed gums are often a sign of gingivitis or other periodontal disease. The dog should have no bleeding or foul breath either. She may have a bad tooth which would effect her eating and gum color. It's normal for a splotch of black here and there but all black is not normal or healthy. Consider taking her to a vet or doing so serious research on her symptoms.

Usually yellowing gums is a sign of Jaundice, and will be accompanied by a yellowing of the whites of the eyes. Jaundice is caused by a build up of bilirubin which should be controlled by the liver. Basically, if your dog has Jaundice, there is something wrong with the liver. If the gums have since turned black your dog is probably very dehydrated and should be taken to a vet right away for testing.

The owner of the dog needs to know how to "operate" the dog, same way you can get into a car that's in perfect running order but if you don't know how to drive you won't have much luck making the car go anywhere. If the owner doesn't know how to maintain the training, the dog will soon become untrained again. Read more here https://tinyurl.im/WPENZ

People seem to think that once a dog is trained, that's it. Not true. You must reinforce the dog's training every single day in some way. It's best if the owner and the dog go together to get trained. As a professional trainer once said to me "We can train any dog in 2 days. It takes longer to train the owners

Black gums on dogs are pretty much normal. It is just skin pigmentation. What kind of dog is she? Does she have black spots on her tummy? On the pads of her feet? I wouldn’t be too worried, but take her into the vet to get her checked out just in case.

Nah; black gums are normal for dogs.

    only white gums are bad.

I've had dogs with black spots on their gums and on their tongues. It doesn't mean they have any chow chow either! It just happens. Some dogs have white skin, some dogs have darker skin, some dogs have spotted skin. Same goes for gums.
