TREES ARE DYING. WHY? (in tennessee) 10 POINTS?
Has anyone noticed that trees in my area (Tennessee) are dying? It's kind of weird because it's just the tips of branches. The leaves seem to be dead, but only at the tips of branches. Is anyone familiar with a disease, fungus, or bug that may be causing this? And it isn't affecting only one type of tree. It's ALL trees, and it seems to be spreading though not all trees have it. Do cicadas cause this? Because around here it is the year for the 7 year cicadas and I wondered if they might be causing it. Any suggestions or observations are welcome.
we are in a 10 year drought cycle. but last year was WAY drier than this year and the trees were fine. and i live in the country (middle of nowhere) so i doubt pollution is the problem

if it's cicadas, then the trees are not dying, just the tips of the branches are... and that's Nature's way of 'pruning'.... next year the trees will be nice and full where all those branches doubled!!.... see, the female cicada needs to be able to drill a hole in a branch to lay her eggs into... and the softest wood for that is out near the tips, the newest stuff..... then, after the tips die, they will fall off eventually, taking the eggs with them to the ground, where the little buggies will then leave the branch and dig in for the next seven years..............nifty, huh?
if it's not the bugs, then it could be 'acid rain'.... that's hitting a lot of pines really hard in the Smokies..............tho other trees are not as visibly hurt....
I'd opt for the bugs..... and the trees being okay next season..........

Is it raining enough there??? They might not be getting enough water which will cause the edges to turn brown and crunchy. (dead).

because that place has a bigger amount of pollution and carbon dioxide and trees`s leaves get a lot of dust so they fall down and by the winter trees have no protection so they dry.
