What do you actually get for being a top contributor on Y!A? What do you get for obtaining a high level?

What is the motivation for people to answer IDK or some other useless answer here. What do they actually get for gaining point sin Y!A? Do they get paid somehow? Because I don't get it. Why bother going for Y!A points if there is no payoff? Yahoo must be giving something out for having a lot of points, otherwise there wouldn't be so many dorks answering with idk and wasting people's time.

You don't get anything but a lot of enemies who will falsely report that your questions and answers are "abuse" and violate the rules just because they want to inconvenience you with the appeals process or hope that, if they report you enough, you'll eventually be suspended.

You get people who will falsely accuse you of cheating without one tiny bit of evidence just because they are jealous of your success.

You will get people who angrily write "Get a life" assuming that you don't have anything better to do than to come here and accept abuse.

The only pay off we get is knowing that we've helped a lot of people along the way. It makes my day when people write "Thanks, that really helped" after I've invested time trying to be helpful. The pointgamers who write "idk" just to score quick and easy points just don't get it. The payoff is not the points but the satisfaction of a job well done!

You achieve nirvan and get to be one with the universe when you reach level 7. That is why people wants points.

Actually, the above sentence is not true. Sorry about that. My mongoose made me type that in.

There is NO prizes no any monetary gain for answering questions in Y!A. But people like it because it is fun. You get to share your knowledge and sometimes share some witty moments with answers to funny/witty off the wall questions.

The points is the "reward" - like points you get in a computer game. And we all like to see points go up so we all come here and try to improve our points.

People also come here to develop social network without the hassle of the fast pace of or trying to keep up with - the chatroom conversations.

    Cheers

you get payed off by knowing you helped someone. as for the point hungry people who only write random answers to get two extra points, maybe they're just competitive and they just want to have a good number. in my opinion though, it's better to actually try to answer a question because then you're helping someone out and you actually have a shot at best answer. those darn competitive people.

if it's a a waste of time -what are you doing here???

sometime's it's nice to be able to share knowledge, and get the same in return.

You don't get anything for it, it's just something to do!!
