I think if you are old enough to die for your country you are old enough to vote. But I think that people should have to prove they are knowledgeable in what they are doing rather than just going in there and voting for the name they recognize or the candidate they think is hottest.

If lowered at all the drinking age should be 19 there are too many highschoolers that are 18. I think that would create a real problem.
I used to agree with this philosophy whole heartedly with the belief that nearly every other country it is legal for adults. However, I studied abroad for a semester in England and it was an entirely different bar scene from what I experienced once I turned 21 in the states. In England my Uni had a bar/club on campus. Which meant that we could easily get drunk and walk back to the dorms.
Also in town (it was a very small town) the pubs were all within walking distance. Plus most college students in England didn't have a car and didn't drive their cars to the bar. Now in bigger cities this may be different but I'm sure they take public transportation much more than we do.
In college in the states I had to drive to get downtown. There was one bar within walking distance but people still drove. Drinking and driving would be much worse if the age was lowered. Though to counter my own argument too many 21 year olds drink then drive.

Drinking and voting are two seperate things, By 18, most people are at least slightly mature enough to decide which candidate would best suit what they believe. In regards to drinking, a person's brain is still developing at the age of 18, drinking can affect this and therefore the drinking age is at 21.

Oh, no!!!!!! I am only 5 years away from being able to vote and I can't wait! I don't want it to be any longer. We just have to hope that the young kids do their research and be informed. :) Plus, you made the beer point, but 18-year-olds can smoke... So I guess the maturity that comes with being able to smoke is also enough to be able to vote. :P Some of the stuff I have heard kids who are old enough to vote (And, yes, older than me) does scare me to death... But I guess we have to keep in mind smart, informed young voters do exist.

The voting age used to be 21. The wisdom in changing it to 18 was if you can get drafted and die for you country (at that time you could get drafted) you should be able to vote.

No, unless they are going to add 3 more years to High School.
One of the few things that President Nixon did do was lower the voting age to 18.
The other two good things were ending the Vietnam War and creating the EPA.

In most other countries around the world the drinking age is 18. I don't know why American wants to label alcohol as taboo. Instead of raising the age limit, they should make people take a straight-forward test on the candidates and their views. The presidential election is like a high school student counsel election: whoever is prettiest and has more friends wins, not whoever can do the job better.

Considering how immature most 21 year olds are, the voting age should be 30!

At 18 one is considered an adult. So, it would only seem reasonable that they should be able to vote.

you would deprive the vote of an 18 year old that can be
drafted into the military and fight for his/her country?
unless you raise the minimum age to 21 to join/draft into the military thats not fair or right...
