With gas prices this high, why would anyone consider voting Republican?

I know the first 10 answers I'll get will all be about how politicians don't determine gas prices. Whatever. If the world gets worse when one party is in power, you kick them out.

Am I nuts?

Update:

There used to be a time when a president would declare "The Buck Stops Here"....no more blaming anyone else. It happened on the Republican's watch...end of story.

Update 2:

Keep on passing the buck everyone. Let's see the Fed, the democrats, the left-wing of the democrats, environmentalists.

No mention of the Saudis yet. Hmmmmm....

Update 3:

Even blamed Obama before he's the President. Wow...that's nice.

Update 4:

Alright, real quick for everyone that doesn't get it. Oil prices are set by oil speculation and not supply and demand. If we find 1 billion barrels of oil today, the price might not decrease at all. Now, blame the democrats for that....ok?

Because McCain wants to drill our own oil-duh! Obama actually will raise with his proposals

Because this is what Democrats have told us they wanted for years. The extreme left wing of the Democratic party has been working on this type of scenario for the last 40 years. Higher gas prices mean that people are using less. It is what they have told us they wanted. They have opposed drilling in ANWAR, off shore, the building of new refineries, pushed for alternative energy that could not compete with low fuel prices, and if you like high gas prices you will vote for Democratic candidates and see even higher prices in the next 10 years. Hopefully this election will be a referendum on our energy policy in America. Of course the Democrats will not claim to be the party of higher oil prices, because if they did people would not vote for them. Instead they misdirect the voter with statements like; "Afghanistan and Iraq are wars for oil". If you believe that why am I paying over $4 per gallon of gas I buy today? No matter who gets elected fuel prices will continue to rise for the next couple of years. This problem is not going to get fixed in a month or two either way.

First and formost, I have fundamental differences with Senator Obama's governing philosophy. That's one reason I will vote for Senator McCain.

Another is that Senator Obama's energy suggestions do not produce one single K/W of energy and too heavily favors research...if Senator McCain's proposals are enacted, real people will get real jobs quicker in both construction and oil production/exploration.

For me personally, what I pay for a gallon of gas is far less an issue to me as the fact the a good deal of that money funds the governments that wish to harm the USA. I prefer to tap the resources available in this country and keep that money in the USA, even if the price never comes down. I am not against green technology, but it is not a practical alternative to meet the countries energy demands at the moment.

That's why I will vote for Senator McCain over Senator Obama.

No, you are not nuts, just blind stupid. Obama and the Democrat leadership has done everything possible to keep oil production and refinery capabilities down. This has directly contributed to our high gas prices. Democrats are in Power controlling the House and Senate. Will you kick them out?

Oil speculators are simply investors betting that the price of oil will rise. It's a part of the reason for high gas prices, but it's not the cause. They know that prices will rise as the demand for oil in countries like China continue to rise faster than supply. If supply started increasing or demand decreasing (but we can't control China) then they would be betting that oil prices would decrease.

Oil speculators nor oil companies set the price of oil. It's a global commodity. The price rises as the demand for it rises.

Well maybe because under a Republican controlled Congress and a Republican President. Crude Oil prices rose $21 in 6 years.

Under a Democrat controlled Congress crude Oils prices have risen $91 in 1-1/2 years.

With the gas prices this high why would anyone consider voting at all? With the Dems in power the prices will only get higher -- more taxes on gas, less drilling for oil, more reasons for us to go "green", no support for nuclear energy. The initial knee jerk reaction to bad times is to vote against the party in power but you will always have to choose between one clown or the other. Won't make any difference.

the only republican controlled area is the president take a look at the congress which may remind you is Democrats actually it goes up more because they tax the gas even more to use the money searching for alternative fuels... not saying that that's a bad thing just saying that causes the price to go up.

it is in basic terms those days a toss-up who to vote for at present? The extreme gasoline fees are going to cripple our financial device worse than that's now and specific reason a significant recession/melancholy. in basic terms be conscious we don't ought to vote for all and assorted. yet i think McCain would be a greater valuable president than Obama because of the fact he has the adulthood and management skills Obama hasn't. i might relatively ought to pay some greater funds on the gasoline pump than have the terrorists coming right here for a delightful pass to does not you?

Because the Republicans aren't responsible. The Federal Reserve is, via debasement of the dollar. Look at oil prices in terms of gold and you will see it has been around the same price for 15 years.

It is the Fed!! These other people have no idea. They are too caught up in party politics, as are you.

Yes, you are nuts. Left wing liberal loonies in the Democrat party and their tree hugging contributors have stopped development of any new oil refineries for 30 years. They have prevented drilling for oil, building nuclear power plants, developing coal power plants, coal into diesel manufacturing plants.

Where have you been? This issue has been covered in the media ad naseum.
