Power steering problem?

The problem I have is that my power steering is way to sensitive.I can spin the steering wheel with one hand quickly and it will make 4 full revolutions very easily. Is this a pump problem or a steering box problem?

Update:

it is a 1995 dodge 1500 ram pickup 4x4

I'm with the other guys sounds like a problem in the steering box. Depending on what year and make it is some of the older Fords and GMs had heavy assist on the steering that made it so you could easily steer with a finger. That went away in the late 70's when it was decided that it was better to be able to feel the road therefore needing less power assist. If your's is a newer vehicle then I would start with tightening the adjustment screw on the top of the steering box and see if that helps.

This sounds very WIERD to me. With the engine running, and the car not rolling -- sitting still -- you can give the steering wheel a hard spin in either direction and it will make 4FULL REVS. to the stop limit?!?

I can't believe that the car can be controlled normally when it is driven down the street and turns corners! Your power steering isn't too sensitive -- it has a BAD PROBLEM!

Hi Not a lot of info here! If the steering is heavy then check the fluid level. If the level is ok then run the engine with the power steering cap off and watch for any bubbles of air emerging from the fluid. If bubbles appear and there are no leaks then you need a new pump. Cheers Geordie
