Will George W Bush go down as one of the greatest Presidents in our lifetime?

I don't think it is fair to say it was a mistake to take out Hussein and his rapist sons. Bush did a great deed for humanity. Bush will go down in history as one of the greatest presidents of our time.

He also continues to protect us and kept our enemies at bay for seven years now. Why bash Bush, he is doing his job and doing it well. Too many people don't understand that we were hated by the islamic muslims way before Bush got into office. Their goal is to kill Americans.

You hurt others, we hurt you. This isn't being a bully it's justice. Don't bother saying it is none of our business, that's the same as looking the other way when your neighbor is being attacked and raped.

Do you agree?

    You are absolutely correct Sarumpi.

Fact: We haven't been attacked again in over 7 years.

Fact: Bush inherited a recession economy and with his nearly 2 trillion dollar tax cuts our economy has grown every quarter even though we have had setbacks like the Enron scandle, an attack on our own soil, housing crises and numerous other economical setbacks. That is one strong economy to continue to grow with those kinds of negative hits simultaneously.

Fact: Our unemployment rate has averaged the last 7 years lower than the 8 years of the Clinton administration.

Fact: Our economy has added 8-10 million jobs in the last 7 1/2 years.

Fact: We have had record quarter growths in the economy with, I believe September of 2007 the largest revenue to the government ever in one month.

Fact: George Bush has had a better environmental record than most any other president. See site below for accomplishments.

George W Bush will definetly go down as one of the greatest presidents ever. All of these people that have bashed bush here most likely supported him after the attacks on our land on 9-11. Our president had over 90% support shortly after the attacks and had well into the 70% range for a couple of years afterword...so I know most of you liberals out there though he was doing a great job then and I know that just eats you up inside.

If you doubt these facts that I have listed here you can easily verify them if you take the time to do a little research. Try the bureau of labor statistics for starters.

These whiners will eat their words in a few years just like they did when the criticized Ronald Reagan and he is now consistently listed as one of the greatest presidents ever.

Why don't you liberals take credit for the hits our economy has taken lately because of high gas prices? You consistently block our ability to drill for oil, build refineries and burn coal. Yes that is right our 4 dollar per gallon gasoline lies squarely in your lap libs.

The funny thing about this question is that the liberals will give thumbs down to this post even though they can verify these statements themselves easily enough......Liberalism is a mental disorder characterized by an inablility to see the truth despite the presence of overwhelming evidence.

islamic muslims... is that kind of like Police Cops from the Simpsons?

First, anything is possible, but I think your question implies a kind of fallacy of history that is being perpetuated by the subject in question (Prez Bush). There is no real end-game for history where consensus is reached and the subject (be it a president or a civilization) becomes "known". President Bush goes down this road when he argues that historians haven't made up their minds about Lincoln yet (implying that they ever will). The whole point of history is to critically assess the past, from the information available to the present in an effort to either challenge or reinforce conventional wisdom.

Now to your assertion that we were hated by (I'm done teasing about the designation you gave them) anti-American Islamists... they've been around for decades, fueled by Sayyid Qutb, Abdullah Azzam, and Osama Bin Laden among many others. The question is, is the application of hard power (military force) causing more benefit or harm to this movement? I think that's a very difficult and complex calculation to make.

Remember, "terror" is not a state on a map, it's a sound method of assymetric warfare. As important as military victories are, propaganda victories are just as much so. We are the preeminent power, so we always have a captive audience. Our response absolutely has an impact on radicalization.

Also, we have made an extensive investment in one region, this has diminished our geopolitical flexibility elsewhere. This should also be a part of of our calculation when considering legacy.

My point is that this is not a black and white issue, it is complex and highly dynamic.

Yes, he will..except you have to replace the word "greatest" with the word "worst". Whoever thinks GWB is the greatest "president in our lifetime" must be under the age of 7.5! So Saddam is gone, but why does the right continue to believe he attacked us? There are alot of evil dictators in the world and we do nothing about them...don't be a sucker and believe what you see on Fox news. Getting rid of him was fine, but not at the cost of our country's future, which right now, thanks to GWB, is looking pretty bleak.

And the phrase about "Islamic Muslims" is just silly (to put it nicely, I don't want to insult you). Thats like saying the Christian Catholics or something. I think you mean the Islamic fundamentalists, radicals, etc. Whatever. I'm bored at work and want to get some yahoo points...

I read his speech, thanks to your link. Bush was never one to deliver great speeches. He's trying to provide a trial balance of his 2 mandates but he mostly talks about his beliefs and not facts. He doesn't have much to say, he's filling his speech with unimportant information like with whom they're gonna have dinner etc. oh and the Thomas Jefferson quote is quite a message eh: like, don't spend too much time analyzing my past mandates and look toward the future.

No way. It will interesting to see how history judges him 20 to 30 years from now.

He has "kept our enemies at bay for seven years now". Let us not forget that the worst security failure in the USA's history happened on his watch, and it might have been prevented. Many people buy into the notion that we haven't had an attack since. The fact is that we are making enemies faster than we can kill them.

The short-sightedness and downright incompetence of the Bush administration has made us a bigger target of terrorism for years to come.

Too early to tell. Only time and further events and their outcomes will define his terms in office.

Should a stable Iraq emerge and become an ally instrumental in promoting peace and humanity in the Middle East then he will be lauded.

If a Democrat wins and withdraws troops, he will look inept.

There are some questions that are just so stupid, they aren't deserving of an answer.

"Will George W Bush go down as one of the greatest Presidents in our lifetime?"

    This is one of them.

George Bush could still be vindicated in history if McCain somehow wins the Presidency...

    1) Because McCain will be worse.

    2) Because McCain will spend the entire Presidency vindicating Bush's war in Iraq and trying to "win it" for him before taking on Iran and North Korea.

I don't think he'll be in the top ten, but maybe between the top eleven to twenty.

The history books will not be able to ignore him like they can ignore so many past presidents.

We should all pray for him.
