Need helpful tips on AP Class?
Okay. I am in high school and i'm going into junior year next school year taking AP Spanish Language. One of the main problems many have told me is that cuz i'm not a native spanish speaker, i am kinda committing suicide taking that class. I am Chinese, and many have doubts i will do good. I am determined to get through the class. My spanish isnt bad either, i have top marks in that class. The problem is, is that i feel i need more preparation. What are some things i should be studying to get ready for AP Spanish Language? What are some things i will be looking forward to in AP Spanish? And also, I know many will probably tell me to drop out of that class and take something easier, but i want to. Unless there is a dire reason that will affect me, then i will still continue to try and work hard in that class.

Although I admire your determination, I must be honest in saying that taking the AP language class may be a mistake. The truth is a college will look harder at your transcript grades as opposed to if you took an AP language course. If you take the class and fail to achieve an "A" you may have shown great determination but a college will only see the GPA. If you are confident that you won't damage your GPA by taking the class then go for it. Then again if you plan to focus on Spanish in college the class may be a benefit in preparing for the more advanced college language courses.

It really doesn't matter whether you're a native speaker; honestly, I have friends who are native speakers who had trouble with high school Spanish, simply because of the grammatical analysis that was required.
What matters is if you have an aptitude for languages - if you do, you'll probably really enjoy the class. Be prepared to work hard, but have fun with it.

Good for you for trying this class. I am also going to take it next year (small world!). I bought The Princeton Review Cracking the AP Spanish Exam book. I From what I have read in it it will be helpful. I have had success with another of their books in the past. Good luck!

languages are hard t learn and require determination. dropping the class is the opposite of determination. i thnk you have a good outlook so try and gain some confidence by speaking with fluent speakers. the best way to learn a language is engulfing yourself in the culture. try reading spanish literature and discussing it with others. AP just means you get college credit. treat it as you would any other class. attend, fulfill all assignmetn obligations, and study. teachers are not their to judge or counsel you, they are there to teach you. good luck

Go to a big bookstore, or Amazon, and get a book on preparing for AP Spanish.
Who are the "many" who told you because you are a native speaker ... ? If they are students, then maybe they are jealous of your determination and hard work.
Go for it. Good luck.
