"Weighted" grade for a class? How does this work?

My daughter used a particularly rough curriculum for Algebra this year when compared to the local high schools class (the high school class was so basic it was more like her Pre Algebra Class she took two years ago). I was wondering if I could consider it an "Honors" class and weight it. If so, how do I show this on her transcript?

Please, only answer the question if you have helpful insight. I am not asking for any ones opinions on Home Schooling.

This thought JUST occurred to me as I read your question here.

Have you thought about having your daughter take the CLEP exam for entry level college algebra?

That would not only "prove" the value and rigor of the class but add 3 college credits to her transcript. Many colleges accept CLEP credits.

I provide the collegeboard link below that describes the algebra test. It goes into detail about what the test covers - I bet if you and your daughter look at the list of algebra topics you've got most of it covered.

To my way of thinking, this approach would be much more interesting to a college than labeling the course an Honors course.

Most colleges don't take weighted GPA. On her college application paper I would have her write about her homeschool experience and that her classes were above the local HS>

My daughter just took a AP physics class and got a B. 80% of the kids in the class had taken honors physics before the AP, she did not. The college addmissions office said to be sure to put that in her paper.

  • when the teachers "weight" the grade for one of my classes they set the highest grade, an A, at the highest score given to a student. as far as the honors class goes im not sure.
