What clothes do I wear in Cairo and Luxor?

Me and my boyfriend are going to egypt in August - a nile cruise then cairo then luxor. What sort of clothes can I wear on the excursions and during the day? Can i wear long shorts and modest vest tops or do I have to always have my shoulders and legs covered in public?

as you say, it will be hot .

so wear cotton clothes , T-shirts , not too short shorts , not too short skirts , not too low bosom blouses .

in brief , deal with the heat in moderation.

drink a lot of bottled water and brush your teeth with it , too.

apply sunblock when you are exposed to the sun.

    have a nice trip.

Wear what you are going to be comfortable in whilst sight seeing, shorts (not too short and tops not too revealing|) also any little loose sun dresses. The only place that you will have to have your shoulders and legs covered is if you are visiting any of the beautiful mosques - but don't' worry if you are not covered the mosque attendants give your coveralls. If you get the chance go to the Citidal in Cairo it is wonderful. At the pyramids just make sure that you have a sun hat and plenty of water. If you go on an organised tour and they take to a hill about half a mile away to get a better view of the pyramids (do not buy anything from the vendors there and do not offer to change any sterling for the Egyptian pound - lesson hard learnt). You can get fabulous bargains in the Khan El Khalili bazaar in Cairo.

Cannot tell you whats best to wear on a cruise. Luxor will be much hotter than Cairo, try and wear again loose clothing. When visiting the Valley of the Kings & Queens also the temple a of Hatshepsut, please take a sun hat and plenty of water as temperatures are very high. Luxor is much cleaner than Cario and there are some fablous places to visit.

I hope you and your boyfriend have a wonderful holiday, and fall in love with Egypt as I did.

ps: The Egyptian people are lovely

i would recommend those cotton tunic tops you can get in most shops they kind of look like a very short kaftan and there long sleeved , and long shorts or linen trousers , you don't have to cover your hair but i recommend carrying a cotton wrap so if you want to blend in , or visit a mosque or to protect you from the sun . it's a good idea . also your boyfriend should not walk around the streets topless as is ok in western countries in summer it's not so good for cairo streets . but ok in more tourist places like sharm. and long shorts (knee length) is fine for him . i recommend not to open shoes as cairo and most of egypt is very dusty and your feet will get dirty and you will feel uncomfortable ! . main points cover up , stay cool , and have fun ! Egyptians love tourists , have a gd time and welcome !

As a tourist you can wear your long shorts and modest vest tops. Some people dress like that anyways, but be considerate and don't show too much skin!

    What date are you going?

I am going on the 20th August to Luxor.

I really dont understand why everyone is saying cover up and be considerate. People come to England all the time dressed head to toe in their traditional clothing.. So why can't we go wearing shorts and a top. We are not used to the weather there so it's only fair. The only thing i suggest is wear shorts over skirts and do not show your cleavage. I know I will be taking floaty summer dresses that end between the top of my legs and my knees.

It is polite to have your thighs, shoulders and head covered (scarf preferably, but a hat will do)
