Does my dog really care about his looks??
I have a 6 year old Sheltie (miniature Lassie looking dog). He was taken to a different groommer yesterday by my parents. The lady must have worked at Supercuts before because she hacked him up soo bad. His body is completely buzzed yet the hair on his face is longer, makes him look like an owl...!!!
I went to go see him today and he was not his usual self. He wasnt excited to see me and didnt even get up to come get a treat from me like he usually does. He looks sad. I wanted to cry with him, especially because we are having 60-80 people over tomorrow for a cookout....
So my question is, can my dog be depressed about a bad hair cut? Do you think he could be hurt emotionally? Or should I call the groommer and ask if something happened to him while he was there that can cause him to be weird/different....
His name is Ranger, and he is (not by my choice), a very prissy dog, a.k.a. he doesnt roll around in cow poop... but he just looks absolutely ridiculous and maybe it is just me feeling really bad for him....

He's most likely uncomfortable with the new feeling of being 'bald', rather than aware of his looks. Poor dog. I hope he wasn't so matted that they had no choice, but it doesn't sound that way. Once shaved, many shelties never get their lovely coat back. I have a rescue I got back by marrying the guy I adopted him to. When he came in to rescue, I had to buzz him due to filth and matting, which I usually avoid at all costs. He never got his coat back as nice as it was.

You have no idea how long this dog may have been lost or where its been. Dogs can look pretty tough after being lost. How would you feel if a dog you loved got lost for a week and the people just decided to keep it because it was thin and matted? To keep her would be stealing! MOST people take care of their dogs and you are just assuming they are not. I am disgusted (although not surprised) that someone here from ASPCA would CONDONE stealing someones animal. I had thought they were not as bad as the AR groups, but maybe I was wrong. I hope they never decide to 'help' MY animals!

Oh! You bet your bippy they sure do know when they look funny.
Poor little guy. He probably already knows that this person did a hack job on him and now he knows for sure because every human is looking at him with 'not happy' looks. And he's probably been laughed at too.
You really need to build up his self-esteem again. He sounds like a very smart and fashionable fella.
Please, when you talk to people about him try to do it somewhere that he doesn't have to hear his name and then immediately get the funny looks.
All of our furry and feathered kids each get a boost.
My hubby is having too much fun with the scissors since summer came on and 2 shih-tzus that we have are really getting ............well..........practiced on.
No matter what they look like when he says he's done we all (anybody that is near) make sure that they are "sooooo pretty. Ohhhhh such a Miss America!""Gorgeous!!!!'' or '''Handsome Boy!!!!''' that kind of thing. And they will strut all around the house and yard, going in front of the other dogs to show off their new do's. But in all actuallity they look like they've been put through salad shooter that didn't work right. hahaha
He must have some reaaly tender feelers....especially now.
But the first thing you need to do asap is to go back to that groomer and show the owner/boss just exactly what he looks like.
Crud, I gotta go...we're late...
good luck and have fun with your furry friend@!

Dogs can get depressed. Maybe he had a bad experience with the new groomer. Next time just take him to the usual one

Dogs like to roll around in cow poop and eat out of the garbage. I HIGHLY doubt they care about what they look like.

Dogs don't care about their looks. It sounds to me like he's sick or that groomer did something to him. I would ask the groomer about it. And don't be nice about it either.
