Probiotics?

Anyone out there use probiotics for their baby or know someone who does? How old does baby have to be to use them? Do you use something special that you mix in their food or just use yogurt?

My daughter constantly has a yeasty infection in the folds of her neck and diaper area...will this help prevent this? I have tried Lotrimin and tried to keep the area dry, but it just keeps coming back. She is formula-fed, on a soy-based formula because of milk sensitivity, so if I use yogurt it would be soy anyway at this point. She is 5 months old, already eating solids (cereal, fruits, veggies, which was OK'd by my doctor, so no rude comments please) very well. I plan on talking to my doctor about it at her next appointment but want to be well informed, so any information would be appreciated. Also, does Nestle Good Start Natural Cultures contain these same probiotics? I am thinking of switching her when she gets a little older...

Lots of questions, but any help would be great!

Update:

You just crack open a capsule of the regular ones (adult) and give them half the powder twice a day. It is sweet and most babies like it. You can mix it with food, but not with liquid (it just won't mix).

Yes its what is in the nestle one and many others.

You can get special ones for kids that are meant to dissolve on the tongue and don't require refrigeration but they aren't any better than the adult ones.

You can also give grapefruit seed extract OR use it topically and it is highly effective at killing yeast. http://www.drjaygordon.com/development/bf/thrush.a...

Other remedies include anything acidic such as vinegar or lemon juice topically.

I use Udo's Choice Infant's Blend. It will also help with diaper rash. I mix it in her milk or juice, just add it and shake it up, it's a powder formula. I don't know how old they have to be but I would think at 5 months it would be okay, it's specially formulated for infants. I started my babe on it at about a year because of chronic diaper rash.

Get her off of anything white..White sugar, cereal, bread, anything with yeast or sugar..She has too much sugar in her body, and the yeast thrives on it. If she is breastfed, you need to cut down on the sugars too..She's getting them from the breast milk if that's the case...I have done extensive research on this subject...Good luck to you!abies often have Candida overgrowth on the diaper area of their skin, producing the most aggressive from of "diaper rash". This is often seen in food allergic infants - cows milk allergy is the most common cause. Oral growth of Candida is known as "thrush" and is also common in babies. Infants with inborn errors of amino acid metabolism display prominent thrush.

Candida is irritating and is perceived as whitish surface material associated with local inflammation and itching or burning. A typical sickly-sweet odor is obvious. Vaginal candida overgrows in response to local changes in microbial flora and immune defense induced by oral contraceptive and antibiotic use. It is common in diabetics with elevated sugar in their secretions, since yeast, like Candida, thrive on glucose. Diabetics with elevated body sugar concentrations do suffer candida overgrowth on the skin, especially in the groin and perianal areas.

Florastor or just plain acidophilus with bifidus powder. You can get them at the health food store or co-op.
