Remove Norton Anti-Virus?

Ok I have read all the other documentation in regard to removing Norton Anti Virus Symantec from my computer, when the free trial ran out I simply shut it off and installed AVG, but recently I have started getting pop ups saying that it is totally out of date and to buy the New Norton package. I never used it in the time i had it cause i didnt have internet access at the time. I have 2 main concerns..

1. Norton offers an intrusion detector and a pop up regarding the use of a software accessing the internet for that reason alone I like it, but to be honest all the request for internet access from the software is from legit sources like AVG, Firefox, iTunes, etc. However they still pop up even though when i am confident i check the always use this option box. What would i use to protect against intrusions without it?

2. Will uninstalling Norton Symantec affect my Firewall, could someone give me some details in regard to firewall, about, where, system. and would it be affected.

Thanks

Update:

Oh yeah, i have a Dell Inspiron 6000

Update 2:

Will removal affect my firewall?????

Go to start, control panel, add/remove programs. Find both antiviruses, and remove them.

Then get "avast!" antivirus. It's free, and it is a better antivirus overall than the ones you used.

Norton is S#!T. Its expensive, computer Hogging, Bad Programmed, useless and has a terrible detection rate. Try a good free program like AVG Free 8.o or Avast Home edition combined with Comodo Fire wall Pro. this will give excellent protection for free.

To get rid of Norton you should download Revo Uninstaller (Just Google it... It is free) and uninstall anything that has 'Live Update", 'Norton' or 'symantec' in its name and make sure you run the uninstaller in Advanced Mode

Delete Norton's first, otherwise it ought to rear its grotesque head & create conflicts with the different courses. Disconnect your laptop from the internet in this era once you're fairly disturbing approximately it. i take advantage of AVG loose, Spybot S&D and advert-conscious SE on my very very own laptop, and have experienced 0 problems with the mixture. Norton's is notoriously confusing to eliminate out of your laptop; Symantec certainly hosts a removing software on their website. (In my strictly own opinion, Norton's AV is in basic terms shy of being a deadly disease itself, in that know.) yet another protection option so which you are able to contemplate could be ZoneAlarm's loose firewall. this is definitely notably sturdy (to the factor of inflammation, certainly :p). the only concern I certainly have with this is that it will ward off your Wii from connecting wirelessly by using your laptop--and that's no be counted if this is lively or no longer. different than that, this is saved me a pair of cases.

You NEED to run the norton removal tool

    http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf...

select the appropriate product and follow the instructions, do not uninstall before running it.

now as for firewall, I suggest you download either zone alarm which gives the same type of notices as what you are

    describing

    or comodo
