Computer not turning on...?
I brought my computer to my friend's house so we can LAN it up. As soon as I arrived and set my computer up, his was not turning on. He just recently moved it from his dad's room to his room. He said it was working fine in his dad's room, but when he was fixing to move it, he just held down the power button instead of going to Start & Shutdown. He's using Windows XP, he has an Abit KN1-SLI. We tried switching his PSU on and off, we switched it around to 115V. We tried everything. We even tried using a different PSU, which did not work. He said when he tried turning it on, he heard a high pitched sound. Almost like the sound the Road-Runner makes. I heard it too. It was very high pitched. We think we blew both PSU's but when we checked them, they were fine. We even unplugged the contacts on the motherboard and tried turning it on by touching a screw driver to the power contact. We tried resetting the BIOS. WE TRIED EVERYTHING. And nothing but failure. Anyone please have any suggestions

I've had this problem several times on several computers.
One thing for sure, ***This is a hardware problem.
Second, It is more than likely that one of the components inside the system is damaged....which can range from a variety of parts, but is most often: 1. The Ram, CPU, or Motherboard.
Second most often, The Videocard and other add-on cards.
The most common damaged component I've always discovered to be the problem was the Motherboard apparently. An electric surge, no surge protection, static discharge, etc...
Once i replaced the motherboard, everything worked on most systems that couldn't boot.
It's more than likely the motherboard, check it for any burn marks etc. You can try swapping RAM...Then the CPU to see if it's only one of them and not the motherboard.
Besides all the above, the problem could also be a simple loose Front Panel Connector or Motherboard Battery, etc. If the front panel connector is not connected correctly, the system wont boot.
But you said this system stopped booting all the sudden, that just sounds like a motherboard, CPU, or Ram issue. (excessive heat on the CPU weakening it, or a power surge on that RAM) Something that might have been on the verge of failing someday due to static or surge damage...even excessive heat. Do yall wear anti-static wrist straps when working on the computer? I've only shorted one component literally from my hand's static and it was a cheap video card. I was in a hurry and the card worked fine, till i felt a little zip from my unprotected hand and the bastard displayed a rainbow of glitch when i started the computer..

all that I can say is that you blew the motherboard. Or it's the PSU but you said that you checked it or I could possibly be the button to turn it on with that has gone bad. Hope this helps!
