Equine School or classes?

Ok, so I've been working part time at a stable for 6 months now. I've been trying to find some courses or an equine school so I can take classes. I would really like to make a career out of working with horses but I can't seem to find anything near me. I live in northern Illinois and I can only find schools in southern Illinois or out of state. I want to stay in this area as I own a horse and I don't want to have to go through the process of relocating. I've tried looking online but I'm not having much luck. Where can I look or find out about this?

Internet is the best way to research. If you already have done that then your going to have to relocate. There a millions of equine schools out there. I guess they aren't in you area

Although equine science courses do have something to offer, the best experience, in my book, is to find trainer that you really respect (watch him/her at shows, both in the ring and behind the scenes, with students, maybe even take a few lessons to make sure it's a good fit) and ask if s/he would be willing to take you on as a "working student." You may do a lot of "grunt work" and probably won't get paid much (if anything), but you'll get lots of exposure to lots of horses and situations. If you prove your work ethic and willingness to learn, you can gain a ton of experience, and also some great contacts in the local (or not so local) horse industry.

Do a Yahoo or Google search of "northern illinois animal science programs". You'll be surprised what comes up.

You can sit exams through pony club. They run rider and coaching courses. Good luck.
