Too much of anything is bad for you. A main ingredient of hot sauce is vinegar, which is highly acidic and I suppose if you drank it by the bottle would give you a nasty stomach ache. Drink a bottle every day and I suppose it would give you an ulcer or similar stomach problems. The capsaicin (the stuff that makes it "hot" sauce) in the peppers isn't necessarily damaging to your digestive system, but it can do a number on your taste buds, eventually burning out your ability to taste anything (however your taste buds will heal in time). capsaicin can also have a slight euphoric effect (a capsaicin buzz, as my friends like to call it), even a mild hallucinogenic effect if taken in great amounts (anyone see that episode of the Simpsons where Homer gets high off the chili?)

All that being said, you'd have to down a LOT of hot sauce to cause any permanant damage to your body. If you have digestive problems already (acid reflex, heartburn, etc.) then it will likely make it worse, but if you're healthy, I'd say down all the spicy foods you care to! Just do everyone else a favor, and sleep alone that night :)

I hope you're not talking to me =[

Hot sauce and "hot" food in general contains substances, mainly capsaicin, that trigger pain receptors in your mouth. In moderation I guess this does no harm. This is what makes the food seem "hot". The only problem I find is that this also generates a "hot" sensation on the way out too.

If you get the hot sauce on your fingers and rub your eyes, scratch your intimate parts, well, it can get a bit uncomfortable. I find that I must be careful to remove the little dried peppers you find in kung pao chicken. I attempted to consume one once. I just about coughed up a lung as a result.

I can't imagine it can be bad for you, because other cultures eat a ton of hot sauce and they appear to be fine.

Well, too much of anything isn't good.

But I'm sure as long as your not eating gallons a day, you'll be fine.

After all, it's just a mixture of peppers, and the most that could happen is heartburn or something.

    :D

It's extremely unlikely that your cousin needed surgery because of hot sauce. Think of all the people around the world who eat hot, spicy foods...

if its bottled hot sauce like valentina then it could be bad cause of alot of vinegar hurts your stomach, but home made like tomatillo or tomate sauce then its not that bad

It can cause heartburn and indegestion, and can aggrivate any ulcers you may have. It damages your vocal chords a bit on the way down as well; not enough to notice unless you are a trained singer, but still.

i don't think it's bad for you. It could cause heartburn though, or indegestion issues. But other than that i think it's okay. Plus anything hot speeds up your metabolism :]
