'01 Honda Civic Radio Reset Code?

So...I'm not the smartest person you'll ever meet and I was really excited to get my first car. I went to a used dealership nearby and bought myself an '01 Honda Civic EX used obviously and It didn't come with an owners manuel and I didn't even think to ask for one. Well the other day I was changing my oil and I noticed my maintnence required light was on so I reset my computer and that went off but now my radio doesn't work. It says "Code". I don't have the manuel for the 5 digit code for my radio to work. I called the used dealership and asked him what to do but he had no idea. Any idea??

There is no default code, try the following.

    1. Look in glove box for small sticker with numbers, should be 5 digits with numbers no greater then 6.

    2. Pull out the ashtray and see if the sticker is on the back of there.(older models that have them)

    3. Pull radio from dash and write down radio serial number and call local dealer with that number and they will be able to get the code for you. They will ask verifying questions.

    4. If you happen to have all the books from the dealer look in the 'HONDA SERVICE HISTORY' book, NOT the owners manual. It should be on the first page in the AUDIO CODE box.

The dealer can not give you the code for the radio with your VIN unless you purchased the car from the dealer and they still have your info on file. If they charge you it's because they will do step three above.

Some say if you turn off radio and hold the 1 and 6 preset buttons then turn radio on it will give you the serial number.

You must have reset it the wrong way.

Do not disconnect the battery to reset it.

When the battery dies or gets disconnected, the radio code needs to be entered in.

The same goes for many cars like VW and Audi.

Go to the Honda dealer and ask them for the radio code. If you bought the car from this dealer, they should give you the code for free.

If not, it will cost $50 to get the radio code.

Save the radio code incase you need to enter it again.

To reset the oil light, you push the reset button by the odometer and speedometer. Push and hold down while the car is off.

Next, turn the key into the ON position, which turns on the electricity, but not the engine.

Still holding the button down, look at the maintenance light. It should turn off after 10 seconds. After it turns off, you can let go of the reset button.

    Good Luck.

you should always ask for everything about your car before you take it out of the lot but any way everyone make mistake and I agree with answer number four if you bought your car from a Honda Dealer than you have the right to take it back to them and give you a pin code. that happen to me before. so I send back and they forgot to give me the pin code with the manuel. even though my car came with a manuel. it was suppose to come with two keys and two remote alarm door entry so I went back and ask them about the other key and the copy one and plus the Radio pin code. so they will have to look at your car VIN number to get it for you or they will have to take the Radio out and get the code from the back which will cost you anything between $50 and $125. in my case they were gonna charge me $95 when I bought my car and that was three year ago so I will say its probably went up to $125 or something but like I said if you bough your car from Honda Dealer than by any right they have to give you the pin code without charging you money but if you buy it from none Honda dealer than you have no choice but to go to Honda Dealer it self to get it fix and work again. good luck. and Happy 4th July.

The absolutely free reverse vin check sites generally provide fake information. To get real information, money will have to be paid. The free searches provide fake information so they can get your email address to send spam.

Stay away from shady reverse vin check sites, most likely you won't get any information after you make the payment. Not to mention you won't get a report and you won't get an answer if you try to call for a refund. Stick with a reputable reverse vin check site like http://www.reversevincheck.net/ that has been around since 1995.

sometimes the code is located on a sticker on the back of the radio if it is original. The sticker is supposed to be removed before it is installed at the factory, but it rarely is. If that is the case you will have to go to a Honda dealership with the VIN number, and they will probably want to charge you to reset it. If you can convince them they may give you the code, but they usually won't give it to you unless you pay them to reset it.

MORE THAN LIKELY U WILL HAVE TO GO A HONDA DEALERSHIP AND HAVE IT RECODED,IT WILL COST U TO HAVE THIS DONE I WOULD SAY AT LEAST $50 OR BETTER,MAYBE A NEW RADIO WOULD BE A GOOD SUGGESTION,THEN THAT WOULD SOLVE UR PROBLEM ALL TOGETHER.

if you don't have the code card and you don't have the manuAL..call Honda (toll free in your phone book.) have your VIN # (off your dash ) handy and when Honda asks for your number also tell them you have no manuAL, they have to give you directions for the stereo( you have to push certain buttons at certain times.)
