Will we return to horse and carriages?

It may not be so far-fetched or ludicrous.

Today- we can use batteries and solar power to provide air-con and heating.

Carriages are light, simple and the possibilities for design and innovation are endless

Horses are fairly efficient, you can stick a large variety of "fuels" into them and they last at least 10 years+.

Average current city traffic speedds are below 25 mph in many cities.

Horses' emissions whilst loud and rather obnoxious if close by (never stand behind a horse in a stable stall)- the methane could be easily burnt off with a mini-pilot light near its' butt. Free and highly amusing ikntermittent illumination. Like nitro funny-cars.

Horse poop is easily avoided lkittering streets via horse-butt-pooper-bag (forgotten correct name)- which can then be used for fertiliser, paper, methane production...

Horse and carriages can all be sourced locally, a huge dormant, sustainable industry could re-emerge- even auto-makers could be carriage-makers

I would prefer electric cars and solar panels - charge it over night - put energy back into the grid during the day -

the electric grid is up - running and everywhere - no reason why we can't go full solar in about 10 years with serious effort -

keep the horses on the ranch and out of the cities - that's just my humble opinion.

An amusing idea JB, all those city toffs dodging the piles of poo in the morning amble to work, why not adapt the engine less car into a carriage drawn by horse and donkey, or rickshaw style by nymphs, make the pavements slow moving escalator's but in reverse, so as to get our nation of lardies back in shape, you getting me at it now, I'm going there's two good looking nymphs pulling a Morris minor rickshaw approaching.

Be a lot of redundacies within the mobile speed camera industry though and we'd have a mountain of NIP forms to get rid off. Mind you, I supopose they could drop the speed limits down and so save the above.

I suppose "speeders" could be those caught doing more than 10 miles an hour, we'd still have the middle lane owners club on the "motorways" and it would certainly slow down the pace of life. Leeds to London in 3 days - wonderful stuff - try commuting that!!

Have a look at footage of what London was like when people rode around in horse and carriages, the place was a complete log jam far more so than now with motor vehicles on the roads. And quite honestly we shouldn't be looking for answers from the past but finding better and cheaper solutions for people to use public transport.

Yes- as long as the politicians spend their time arguing and not not delivering high gas prices the one two punch of allowing companies to build more refineries and drill for oil for the some what short term- 5 to 10 years while encouraging new power sources for long term use 19 years +.

One orthe other won't do crap but doing both will.

I would have driven a limo to the wedding personally, but it was in the shop. The mechanic told me I had blown a seal. I said, just fix it and leave my private life out of this.

Hey in some states taxis are still required to carry a broom and shovel. A few of my more dismal informed friends think that we would revert to some cave-man state...but I think it would be 1800's at worst...except nobody really knows how to farm anymore...

imagine 2-3 feet of horse manure on the city streets.

mass transit is the way to go.

Well without oils to make textiles like plasic our very way of life would end. One reason plastic is important is because they use it to shield wires for electronics.
