How do I convert a 6v + ground electrical system to a 12v - ground system?

I have a 1962 IH T5 Crawler dozer that currently is set up for a 6V + ground system, and I want to convert it to a 12V -ground system. What I need is a list of parts I need to get and some sime instructions or a clear schematic of what goes where. I know I need to get a 12V Altenator (I think I can use the one that came off of my '91 GMC Sonoma) Is that correct? Thanx.

a transformer is NOT GOING TO WORK for you, you cannot run DC thru a transformer.

You need to strip out the entire voltage system, make all lights 12V, any digital gauges are going to have to be modified. the altenator can come off a constant drive, thru a voltage regulator to the battery.

Take out anything that has a wire on it. Find a 12 volt equivalent and replace it. Probably easier to pull all the wires also and put in new ones. In other words a completely new electrical system.

I think you will have to do it all on your own. Big job.

Why? leave it the way it is. If you want to add something, get a 6 volt version or buy a small DC-DC converter for that item.
