How many KNOW that Peter and Paul did NOT preach the same gospel?

Peter preached Judaism and the law of Moses, and was told by Jesus to preach it to "none but the Jew only."

Paul preached Christianity, and the GRACE of God, and the CROSS as the means by which we must be saved.

Is this the same? Things that are different are NOT the same are they???

Update:

Amazing! Not ONE so called professing believer KNOWS that Peter preached Judaism and Paul preached Christianity.

No wonder people are so confused. Please....find out what the gospel really IS today and come out from among the "religious" who are NOT teaching you what the Bible says to YOU in this age of Grace, but mixing the programs and teaching stuff that makes the Cross of NONE EFFECT.

There are NO correct answers here....this is very sad indeed.

Peter and Paul both preached the same gospel. They used different illustrations and they emphasized different points at different times but there is no contradiction between what Paul preached and what Peter preached.

2 Peter 3:13 But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness. 14 So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him. 15 Bear in mind that our Lord's patience means salvation, just as our dear brother Paul also wrote you with the wisdom that God gave him. 16 He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction. 17 Therefore, dear friends, since you already know this, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of lawless men and fall from your secure position. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

People who claim that they preached different gospels are "ignorant and unstable people (who) distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction" according to the Bible.

    Peter preaches faith.

Acts 15:7 After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: "Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. 8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. 9 He made no distinction between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith.

    Peter preaches grace.

1 Peter 1:10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, 11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things. 13 Therefore, prepare your minds for action; be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus Christ is revealed.

    Paul preaches grace through faith.

Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

    No contradiction.

Uh, I don't know where you got your information, but Paul and Peter preached the same gospel. At first, God wanted Peter to preach the gospel to the Jews because He wanted them to repent so that the Kingdom could take place. But, since they didn't repent, God sent Peter to the Gentiles. Also, Peter preached that a person must believe that Jesus died for their sins.

As for Paul, He preached to the Jews and to the Gentiles, and he preached the same thing.

Now, Judaism used to be correct, until Jesus came. The Jews were looking for the Messiah to pay the price for their sins, and had faith in Him. So, they were saved. Then, the Messiah, Jesus, came to earth and paid this price. The problem with the Jews was that they refused to believe that He was the true Messiah. So, thats why Judaism is not longer correct. Its Christianity.

Peter still preached the law of Moses, but he taught that we are saved by grace.

Things that are contradictory are not the same. But different doesn't always mean contradictory. Different may be complementary. I believe Peter and Paul were complementary. I also think that James was complementary as well but used a different vocabulary for the same concepts.

In addition I agree with several answers that say that Peter and Paul truly preached the same Gospel and both died because of it.

"Peter preached law." "Paul preached grace." "James preached faith and works." I think statements such as these are too simplistic to explain what is really at stake here.

Salvation under old and new covenants was always grace through faith unto good works. Faith in looking forward to the coming messiah or faith in looking backwards to our risen Savior. Law never saved. But it was and is perfect, not for salvation, but for sanctification.

Actually it was James who was the Legalist. True that Peter agreed that Paul would be the Apostle to the Gentiles, but James was very influential to Peter, and has been a deviant to Christianity for all this time.

    James preached Moses:

    Acts 15

    James preached ritual cleansing:

    Acts 21

James' followers were causing Peter to change what he did:

    Galatians 2

James preached 'works' not understanding the Spirit of God:

    The Epistle of James

James did not believe Jesus (John 7:5) , and was NOT an Apostle.

James was a Legalist, and what he did is overlooked and misconstrued by Christians even today.

Once Jesus died and resurrected ... fulfiling ALL things that were written about him in the Books of the Law, the Pslams, and the Prophets ... EVERYTHING changed forever.

The Holy Spirit explained it to all the assembled apostles and disciples, on Pentecost.

Jesus explained it all to St. Paul, just a bit later.

The New Covenant message of hope has been remarkably consistent and complete, for the last 2000 years or so, as it has been authentically proclaimed by the only Church that Jesus ever founded, authorized, empowered, and eternally guaranteed.

St. Peter was appointed the leader of that Church by the risen Christ, while he still walked the earth.

St. Paul was called to be an apostle by the same risen Jesus, a short time later.

Both are apostles. Both preached the authentic Gospel, and both helped to save countless souls, by bringing them the "Good News" of salvation, in Jesus Christ.

Any differences in their views were practically, officially, and completely reconciled at the 1st Council of Jerusalem, and the Bible clearly documents that fact.

Both also gave their lives for the true faith, preaching the authentic Gospel message, as we still hear it taught, today.

Perhaps it is YOU who never got the memo?

The main theme of the entire Bible is the literal Kingdom of God, the prophets foretold about it. When Jesus came to earth he and his disciples preached that he was going to be the future king of that kingdom. And Jehovah's Witnesses preach that, that kingdom was established in heaven in 1914 according to bible chronology, and real soon that kingdom is going to extend it's domain over the earth. So the prophets and Apostles preached the same message.throughout the entire Bible. Daniel 2:44 , Mathew 6:10 Mathew 24:14

We need both the law and the grace of God

  • 1 decade ago

I believe they are indeed separate things, law and love ... put them together and we can live perfect lives, such as Jesus did.

Separately they can be evil or sinful ... the law with no love is meaningless, and love without law is immature.
